Hope running out for pipped eggs

Out of the 9 eggs I have from a Dec 20, 2009 clutch, all but 1 have shrunk with a visible x shaped split in the end. Out of the 8 that have pipped, 6 have hatched and been in the baby tub since Wed. How long should I hold out hope for the remaining 2 pipped eggs? The 1 egg is still full size so I am not so worried about that one. Looks like a late bloomer. Thanks

Awww, that's a real bummer. Sorry about that. It can be very frustrating.

I had a clutch of cristatus start to sweat and darken. Out of the 10 eggs total, only 3 hatched out without any help whatsoever. The 4th chameleon, I snipped the egg after it stopped sweating and had begun to darken. The next four eggs... it was a tough call. In a nutshell, after the eggs started sweating, I pretty much did the hatching for them. I thought two were dead but was able to get them to start breathing.

If I had waited three days on any of them, the eggs would have been dead.

The last two eggs smelled moldy. When I took the babies out, they were alive. But they never started to breathe. So I don't know if waiting would have helped or if these two were doomed anyway. Can't help but feel guilty. On the other hand, I have four babies that I wouldn't have had if I didn't help them hatch out once their eggs were done sweating and were darkening.

I also don't know if a baby will suddenly pop out. I was afraid to risk it with these babies being captive bred. Things were just looking really bad for them.

The 8 babies are doing fine, btw.

I'm not recommending this to anyone. Just sharing an experience with troubled hatchings. It can be very frustrating and you can feel very helpless.

I have heard on here that keeping the verm too moist can cause that to happen more frequently. About 2 weeks ago I was reading a thread about keeping the weight of the egg containers exactly the same over the course of incubation by adding a small amount of water to the medium to bring it back to the original weight. SInce I had not weighed my container at first, and it had already been 6 months, i dribbled in a couple drops of water just incase. I wonder if adding that moisture cause a premature hatching, and subsequent leathery eggs that could not open? I have weighed the last 2 egg boxes so I can be certain if it is drying out or not.
