hood question

I'd there such thing as a hood that is too small? as in my chameleon won't be getting proper uvb from the fixture. I want a 24" hood but really all I can find is the zoo med 18". if there is a particular size of hood and light size that should go with cage sizes can you post them? I'm probably going to put my new cham in a 18x18x36 until he gets older. as I think 24x24x48 would be much to big.

No not really. Some people use the compact bulbs which cover far less area than the tube style. Ideally you would like it to be the width of the cage but it doesn't have to be
