Home-made chameleon stand for anal chameleon owners

After owning the 18x18 exo terra stand, we didn't want to spend the money on the larger one that would hold two 18x18 enclosures. First of all, it really isn't well made, second of all, the price for the stand is totally outrageous for the lack of quality (basically cheap, composite board with cheap black laminate and doors with crappy hinges).

We keep our enclosure in the family room and wanted something that looked really nice and matched the rest of our furniture. So rather than waste our time searching all over the internet and probably paying way too much money for another terrible stand, we built our own!!

The stand is made out of 3/4" solid wood that we cut, stained and sealed ourselves, includes 2 doors and a sturdy shelf. The dimensions are 36" x 18" x 32" and it turned out really really great!

Here are the pictures of the work in progress as well as the finished product. Still waiting for our second permanent enclosure, so don't mind the height difference of the two. Thanks for checking it out!

Spray painted two picture frame moldings and attached to the front of the doors to add a little decoration and really tie the whole thing together.

We had a lot of fun doing this and are thinking of making a couple of more. If anyone would be interested definitely let us know, just send us a PM.

why can't I find a guy as handy as you, are you single LOL. It is cool, much better than what I rigged up, not sending pictures but it works.:D

Looks good! I have an Exo-terra stand and was kinda disappointed. They were off on there doors and we had to drill new holes for them. If you pay that much for something you shouldn't have to alter it!

I have all my cages on milk crate shelfs lol. Im a rigger and they were cheap and alot stronger than i expected. Your stand looks great..... I aint that talented lol my tank stands i built for my fish had to be altered once i for em built lol.....

That is exactly why we went with building our own. Like I had said, we had the smaller one when we just had the one cham and Sean said it was the worst thing ever to build. Nothing was fitting right, all the holes were off etc. The magnet that holds the door shut never worked right because the holes were off, and the door on top that folds down wouldn't fold flat because of holes being wrong. We figured for less money we could make one that matched our current furniture and worked much better It ended up being around the same with the good stain-ready wood, the stain, conditioner and urethane, screws, hinges, and handles but TOTALLY more worth it in the end. It definitely looks more polished and put together than the cheap exo terra one.

Again, if anyone is interested, send us a PM with what measurements you would want and maybe we could work something out! We had a lot of fun building it together.
