Hoe Breeding and ?'s

For anyone who has hoes, or had hoes....

Okiroo's female has refused to breed with my male.

My male head bobs, does the dance, and the female gets angry, she has head bobbed back, and even pushed him off a branch.

my question is, who has experiencewith breeding>

how has the female behaved?

how long can it take for a female to be receptive?

Okiroo stated she heard that the females are oftentimes in charge, is that true?


also, how would we be able to find out if her female was a he/she?

We arent sure this is true, as she shows no physicla traits of being a boy... but her coloring is brighter and she has head bobbed.

Chloe shows red dots and chases off Kermit-

Chloes tail base is very thin(esp. compared to Kermits large tail base) She does a wiggle dace and will head bob at him, but she also does that to her food sometimes. Kermit is submissive to her and she only goes after him if he shows mateing interest(walking slowing and head bobbing non-agressivly to her) she will than turn around and wiggle her branch and head jerk in return. Last night he got to close and she knocked in half off his branch. he has never attacked her back.

Kermit has grown. i will take new pictures sometime.

Some animals need seasonal cues to become receptive. The males might still want to breed or even in some species the males need the cues too. Ive only owned a hoe for a very short time so I am not sure if this species needs it or not. Although!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Providing the seasonal changes is a good practice even for the easy to breed species that dont need the cues to breed like panthers and veileds.

Any info on how old the female is and how she has been kept (amount of watering, how many times a day, temps etc)?

female is over a year. male is a year. lotssss of water and eats like a champ. temps are 70-80 with a drop at night depeneding on where she is.

As far as that I cant really give anything else info wise. Do they produce more clutches than just one a year? Have you tried housing them outside for a while and then introduce them? Besides that I dont have enough experience and have not read much into the species

Yeah. i had them together for a while and they follow eachother around. shes now away from him. he goes and looks all over the room when i take her away :/. been a few days now. i've done this a few times before. after introduction she becomes madder then if he has botherd her when they are together for a few days. she does her wiggle dance and he backs off but follows her around. mabey hes waiting for her to become receptive.

It seems like we had just missed the boat with her being receptive when he first arrived... so i wonder how long it takes them to cycle back in?
