Hide and seek

I had a brief panic attack this afternoon. I left my girls cages open, as i have done since getting them, for about two hours, to give them a chance to venture out if they desired. They do NOT like me to handle them at all so other than if absolutely necessary they do not come out. Now.... since July, the doors have been open every day and NOT ONCE have either of them come near their doorway, but the bedroom door stays shut so they cant get too far just in case. Well, i went in to check their feeding cups and see if a refill was needed, and Miss Archie was missing. Gone. I practically tore her cage apart (very heavily planted so not easy to see her on a good day to begin with). Not there. I called my daughter into the room to see if i was just not seeing her but no, this wasnt it. She truly was gone. I turned head to the kitchen to get scissors to start removing branches and there she was, sitting on the edge of a basket on my nightstand next to the bed! Oh the relief..... and the best news, since she had voluntarily left her space, she actually was quite pleasant! I walked over, she walked up onto my hand and i pet her for a few secs and put her back into her cage. Not a single hiss or attempt at biting, nothing! So maybe his is the beginning of her acceptance and an increase in bravery. I wont hold my breath, but it will be interesting to see if it happens again. I will definitely only keep the doors open while i am in the same room from now on however!

LOL. Very cute story! My cham is more territorial, than anything. Once he's out of his cage, he's very sweet. This seems to be a common thing. Just remember to move slowly and deliberately. They are very smart creatures, and will soon learn that coming out is a great experience! And if your other cham sees this one can come out, then it might too. Just watch out for fights!
