for years i have wanted a baby chameleon and a few weeks ago my wife and partner got me charlie for my birthday, i had obviously done my research before we got her, she is around 2 months old now, and has started acting very strangley. She has started wandering back and forth on the same 6 inches of branch and is constantly a very dark colour, she also flicking her tail back and forth almost as if she cannot control it and she seems very weak and dosile (apart from tail). We have her in an exo.t enclosure that is 3x3, we feed her crickets gut loaded and dusted, she also gets wax worms once a fortnight as a treat, the temp in her space is generally between 75-80, with humidity between 55-70(depending on misting which i do twice a day), she has plenty of foliage, but she seems to be getting worse by the day. BTW she is a 2 month old veiled. please help and thanks in advance for replies.

thanks for your quick reply

Chameleon Info:

Your Chameleon - veiled chameleon, female, we bought her around 3 weeks ago and were told she was 6 weeks then so around 2 months old.
Handling - very rarely, maybe twice since we have had her
Feeding - we are feeding baby crickets that we gut load with cabbage and, we feed baby wax worms every 2 weeks as a treat, she has a constant supply of crickets.
Supplements - we are dusting with calcium supplement as rec by breeder, not sure of brand as have not got it with me but we use it twice a week.
Watering - i mist the tank tank and foliage heavily twice a day using warmish tap water i have seen her drink this but not in last couple of days
Fecal Description - droppings are around a cm long and are generally black with the odd streak of white, never been treated for parasites to best of my knowledge
History -is generally quite active and a nice green colour

Cage Info:

Cage Type -the cage is mainly glass but has a mesh top and is 3ft tall 2ft wide and 2ft deep.
Lighting - not sur of brand and model of lighting we are using as was sold to my wife when bought from breeder, we have a basing lamp that we have on for around 8 hours per day and the uv tube for around 10 hours
Temperature - we have 2 theomometers in the tank one at high level and one at low level the temp generally is between 75-80, snd 70 overnight
Humidity -humidity varies quite a lot but averages between 55-70, we have a homemade drip system in place and mist heavily twice a day.
Plants - no live plants just non toxic artificial
Placement - our cage is in the spare reception room so nice and peaceful, so and is raised around 4 ft from the floor, we sit in that room in the evening but we only watch tv really
Location - the north east of england.

As above,

hope this helps and again we apreciate any help or advice you can offer.

for your light your heat sounds good but since shes a female i would lower the temps and you should have a reptisun 5.0 linear uvb bulb, gut loading i remember reading not to gut load with cabbage try other healthy vegetable but stay away from spinach your dusting supplements should be multivitamins twice a month, d3 twice a month and calcium without d3 twice a month and she should not be in a glass cage but in a all screen cage

thanks for your quick response, i will be at the pet shop first thing in the morning do you think thats all it is? just very worried as to why she keeps flicking her tail and seems very shaky

Calcium without d3 should Be almost every feeding with veileds

Calcium without d3 should Be almost every feeding with veileds

I agree calcium with no d3 should be used very lightly each feeding. Calcium with d3 2x a month and multi vitamin 2x month

yes but if shes shaky it could be mbd

Since he was dusting a baby twice a week it could be mbd, but he has only had her 3 weeks. She is to small to need to lower the temp.

Things I would do:

gut load crickets with at least 2 or 3 of the following, collard greens, rocket, mustard greens, red peppers, sweet potato's, & add calcium to your gut load.

Get her some lice plants, ficus trees, umbrella trees or pothos are all good choices.

What watt UVB does she have? In a terrarium she should have a 5.0 repti sun or repti glo

Those should get her started for now they we will see how it goes. Let me know.
