Hi guys new here but have been reading on her for a couple of weeks, I hoping someone can help me.
Hi, I have bought a exoterra 100 and a repti sun 5.0 and also a 70 watt and 100 watt basking lamp, but I can't seem to get the basking spot much over 80f 30 degrees I have to have the light cluster off the mesh or it starts to melt it the 70 watt sits in the mesh fine and is probably getting a slightly hotter tempeture.
Does anyone got any advice in how I can boost the heat? Want to get it right before a chameleon goes in there (yemen male hopefully) cheers
I am using a zoomed deep dome combo for the bulbs cheers. P.s I'm from the uk scotland if that help at all :)

You have two uvb's then? I have never had a flexarium so my lights lay right on the screen and don't melt. It must be the kind of screen they use. The only thing I could think of is, if you have to move the light up, then move your basking branch up higher also, but not close enough so any parts of your chameleon's body could touch the hot screen. So you are using two basking, one 70 and one 100 clustered together and you can only get 80deg? Are you sure your temp gauge is correct??

Sorry carol no I've used tried a 70 watt and also tried a 100 watt next to the repti sun, because I have to move the domes off the mesh with the 100 watt it's not helping, I am using a cheap dial type thermoter, the bulbs are pre rep neodymium daylight spot lamp.

How far down is your basking branch? Have you tried moving that up like I said, or do you have it up as high as it can go? The uvb's do not give off any heat really.

I have it high up maybe a digital thermometer might be better, what kind if bulb would be better and what should be the tempture away from the basking spot?

Ideally for babies and young, the basking spot should be in the low 80's or around 80 so you really should be ok, as long as the rest of your cage is cooler. They need a temperature gradiant and the heat under basking to digest their food. If your cage was in the low 70's and your basking about 10 degrees or so higher, that would be fine. The adults can bask at higher temps closer to 90 and even above. I use a temp gun. I don't use gauges. Mine are mostly housed outdoors and when they come inside I do not worry about the temps honestly. I know my situation is different than yours.

Thanks carol, I'll keep an eye on things! Wow I wish we had your weather here would be great to see them out side!
