Help with shedding...

It has been about two days since he started shedding and he still has dead skin on the top of his head and at the base of his tail. How long does it take for a chameleon to finish shedding? And is there anything besides misting him that I could do to help him out?

Also, I have read that you are not supposed to pick the dead skin off but I was wondering why that is.

It kills the color on their skin and it turns black

one of 2 things you can do warm water misting by hand or can do the shower thing with aiming flow of water at a wall as to not directly spray your cham. you should never pick skin off for them best to offer more misting and humidity
