Help with drainage

Hello!

George's adult cage is almost now ready for decorating, but first thing first - I'm planning on getting a mistking for this cage due to the size, but I need some help with drainage and would just like some suggestions and ideas. Below are some photos of the actual cage, it is the Zoomed Iguanarium and comes with a large metal tray as the base. I was thinking of just denting the bottom so water collects in an area, drilling some holes through the metal tray where the water collects and putting a collection tray underneath. Any other ideas are welcome, give as many as you can! Any suggestions are really appreciated.

if thats a metal tray you could add a drain like a pea-cock from a motorcycle gas tank.(a new one) they have a shut off. maybee lineX the whole tray to prevent rust.Just an idea with what you have.

Yeah rust is my main worry. Thank you for the suggestion, I'll see what I can do!

I'm kind of confused about this Line-X thing. Is there no way to buy it online? Looks like you have to phone them etc.

what i did for my cage (4x2x2) I drilled a whole in the section i knew where there would be a collection of water, inserted a little melal pipe, attached a tube which leads to a rubbermaid bucket under my cage. I'll try to post pics tomorrow. Hope it helps

May I suggest using 5 or 6” above the tray to hold 2-4 gallon containers for drainage and mistking water reserve. You can make $2 1”x1” wood frame tie-wrap to the cage and staple the $5 shower liner with $5 drain plug and have $12 egg crate light panel as divider. See my ugly stretch drawing.

Thanks for the detailed pic. I read that the metal tray that comes with the Iguanarium is already galvanised too so rust won't be an issue. We're going to wrap 3 sides of the cage in a shower curtain today and then move onto the drainage. The mistking won't be here for a month I reckon (Being in the UK) so not much I can do there yet. I'll probably have to test drainage with a pressure sprayer for now.

Should be ready for him in about 2 weeks apart from the mistking.

May I make a suggestion- I learned that emptying a 'tray' once or twice a day is not as easy as emptying a bucket. Trays are hard to balance with the sloshing of water, and large volumes of water will actually cause the tray to twist and warp in your hands as your trying to get it out the door. I have found that a 5-gallon bucket is MUCH easier to carry out than the plastic trays. Only drawback is that you will need a substantial amount of space between the bottom of your cage and the lip of the bucket. Just a suggestion.

It's a good suggestion. I went to have a look for something to use as a platform a few inches higher than the bottom tray but couldn't find anything the right size. Need to do some more hunting around.

I would like to have a bucket or something underneath, with a proper drain, but it's just so difficult to find the stuff I need here. I may end up having no choice but to go with a few drilled holes and a shallow tray. I hate emptying trays for the reason you mentioned, I end up with water everywhere trying to empty it.

Mistking is so fine when it spray so you may not need to wrap 3 sides in shower curtain, maybe the back side only.

I made my own bucket 4 wheeler with pull rope for my Son to use when time for him to empty the water. :D

If your a 'Handy man', you could build some type of cabinet that would hide the bucket and put a hole in the bottom of the lower panel in the lowest spot. You could warp it to create a low spot if necassary. You might even find a small cabinet like this somewhere like Home Depot or Lowe's. Just a thought.
