We have owned 2Jacksons(1 male and 1 female) for less than 2 months. We were told they were cage mates before we got them. It now appears that last night they mated. We would greatly appreciate some advise on how to tell if our female is in fact pregnant. Also, if she is, is there any special care we need to provide to her (ie, special health needs)? We were not expecting them to breed, as we were informed that they lived together without doing so prior to us getting them. They have been very happy living together to this point and we would like to keep things this way. Please help us if you can.

You shouldnt have had them together in the first place.
just because they didnt do it before, doesnt mean they wont do it ever.
its their nature,

post a picture of her please.

since jacksons are live bearers, just mkae sure she gets good supplementing (without too mcuh) and space.

and most importantly!
REMOVE HER FROM THAT CAGE AND KEEP THEM SEPERATED!

Thanks for the advise. Neither the research we did before getting them, nor the breeder we got them from, ever said anything about keeping them apart. As was stated in my original post, we were told they were cage mates before we got them. Lesson learned I guess. Are there any signs I should look for to tell if she is pregnant? We only want to provide the best care for our pets. One thing is for sure, we will be getting a sperate cage now.

Are they siblings?
ANd she may become grumpy towards the male, and i think she will change color if she is gravid (pregnant) but I dont have alot o finfo on jacksons.
PM Miss Lily, she has a jackson and can probably help with some of your questions.

She will repel the male if she is gravid by darkening her colors and taking on a pattern, hissing, swaying back and forth and may even attack him. If she is separated from him and can't see him, you will be able to tell because she will get wider in the back end of the body.

We were also never informed of their age. We asked, but were never told. Again, lesson learned about who to get chameleon from.

Thanks for the advise. I will send a messaage to Miss Lily and see if she can help any further. Heading out today to getting means to seperate them.

I am also not sure if they are sibs.

When we were expecting them to arrive, we had only been told that were getting a male with a cropped tail and a perfect female that had been cage mates. I asked the breeder, who also lives here in Florida about ages, and never got an answer.

oK.
The reason I ask is because if they are siblings, it could mean some issues with the babies.

ALso, if you dont know, the female can have the babies shes makng now,
AND THEN have more babies several months after that.
they can retain sperm so you can actualy end up with two clutches of babies.

Thank you very much for seperating them!

I also want to say, that i wasnt yelling or being harsh with stuff in caps, just emphasizing a point!

Can anyone tell me how to post pictures that are saved on my computer to the forum? I keep trying, but the sight keeps wanting me to give the URL of my photos.

I'm not sure, but you could try posting them as an attachement. Just click on "manage attachments" when you are posting a new thread. ( you will have to scroll down and look) then a window should pop up with a browseing bar that allows you to search your computer for it.

Welcome!
Yes, just click the paper clip and upload them from your computer. Thats the easiest way.
If they are adults and have been cage mates for a long time, she could be pregnant already, and give birth any min.
Also as stated, they can retain sperm and have multiple clutches from a single mating.
