Help Me Decied Between A Veild and A Jacksons

I currently have a Veild (for 2 days now!) and he has been doing pretty good & i have been obsessing over him. I have the opportunity to "switch" him out for a Jackson, around the same age (4 months.) I don't know much about Jacksons and I was wondering if anyone had an info on the difference between the two, or advice on which option I should pick? I'm BRAND NEW to reptiles, and have been working on learning as much as possible about both types! Thanks everyone! && Everyone's opinion is valid and apprechiated!

I'm new to chams also... but from what i heard.. jacksons are alittle harder to keep.. i have a veil and he's great!! Next i wanna get a panther..

It really just depends on your preference, but I can point out some of the differences care-wise. Jacksons are smaller so veileds require a larger adult enclosure. Jacksons require higher humidity and cooler temperatures. In general, Jacksons don't seem quite as hardy as veileds, either, and are more easily stressed. Also, the supplementation schedules between the two are a bit different. I have never had a Jacksons, but from what I understand, you may have a better chance of getting a veiled that is easier to handle (though chams in general don't really enjoy being held or want to be held). If you ever breed, veiled lay eggs and Jacksons have live births.

Keep the veiled jacksons are ugly.

I say keep the Veiled, you have a setup for it and it's totally cute :D Have fun getting to learn about him and all the different insects and gutloads and vitamin powder with a species that is slightly more forgiving of husbandry errors.
Learn about Jacksons too because they are awesome and have horns like little triceratops. Get one of those next....... :D. Here's a vid for future reference - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKTbUaOQ0aA

I myself do not think jacksons are ugly.I've also had a veiled & for me myself I have had way better luck with my jackson. My veiled was a mean little girl & no amount of trying would change the fact.On the other hand my jackson is such a sweet little guy and truly loves being held. He's never been stressed either unlike my veiled. He's never once hissed or tried to bite me.My veiled went out of her way to hiss everytime I went to feed or mist her.But each chameleon regardless of species has their own personality,in my experience anyway. And each person has their own preference on what cham they do or don't like.
My ambanja boys are sweet guys too & also love being held.
Here's my little sweetie one yr old named Dane.I've had him since he was a mo old

I've had both. I, personally, like the Jackson's a bit more, but that's because they remind me of my hometown (Honolulu). Overall, Veileds are easier to raise, but Jackson's are so stinkin' cute!!!

I love Jacksons, in fact since I was a child the chameleon I wanted was a Jackson. I didn't even know there were other types. I went with the Veiled over the Jackson at the pet store (They had babies of both) because the Veiled is a "beginner" chameleon. Had no idea about the colors etc, but basically if you're brand new to chameleons. I'd recommend to stay with the Veiled.

I would say to keep the veiled, just bc you already have it and you love it. If you got the jackson, I would think you would miss your little veiled, who you have already fallen for. Also, you have the setup and everything for the veiled, and I don't know specifics, bc I have never had one, but jacksons require different care. I would love to someday get a jackson. All of the ones I see on here just seem so sweet and lovable. They do have sweet little faces.

You are really the only one that knows what is right. Think it over, find out about the differences in husbandry, and then decide. Good luck!

Aw! Thank you for calling my Commah, cute :)

This is stressing me out so much! haha!

Well now, all baby chams are cute ;), and you see he's even got a name......and you'd have to change your forum user name if you dumped him :D Is it unnecessarily silly of me, to add, more aberrant, commas..........

You ALWAYS have clever things to say! Thanks for all of the advice guys, i'll probally end up keeping my Commah. Your right... I couldn't bear to part with the name!! (its what I wanted to name my chameleon since I was a kid!) OR HIM!!

Thanks for all of the advice guys; i'll let you know when I meet the Jackson, and when I decied!

UPDATE: Today I went to visit the Jackson cham that I considered trading Commah for. First off, It was a female, and i've always wanted a male. Secondly it was HUGE. Round, and older. Atleast 9 months old, whereas Commah is about 4 months. She was super shy/agressive and just odd. End all, be all; Commah's here to stay :)

If I remember from an earlier thread you were having problems with humidity. A jax will be less forgiving if you live in a dry situation and you'll spend a lot more time/effort/money/water keeping it healthy. They also need cooler night temps so in summer that can be a problem depending on where you live. If you need to run an AC in summer that will dry out your cage even more! Not to say it can't be done, but your veiled is a better one to start with, get used to, gain experience with. Not all veileds turn out to be mean BTW. Not all jax are nice or even tolerant of handling. Jax are also prone to more types of infections and nutritional problems too.

Yeap- worked out my humidity problems.
I went to meet the new Jax today and she was not what I was expecting, or wanted. I agree- Im just trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks.
