I just received my BB Fly Pupae and several have hatched. What do I put the flies in and how do I do it without having flies escape? Should I put them in the ice box for a few to slow them down so I can transfer them into a container? (they came in a little mesh bag). Any suggestions are very welcome right now...

Stick them in the fridge for 10 minutes and they will get groggy. You can put them a Tupperware after that.

Depending on how many you have, you might want to split them up into a few containers.

I ordered 500 spikes but they were out so I got the pupae instead. Looks like 25-50 hatched so Ill put them in a critter keeper and place the rest in the ice box. Any suggestions on the best way to store them in the ice box so I can hatch out a few at a time?

Thanks for the help.

I got 6 of the little glad boxes from the grocery store and poked holes in the blue lids. I split the pupae across all 6 and left them to hatch on their own. As they emerge as flies I would either put the container in a cage and leave the lid up on one corner and quickly shut the door, or I would put them in the fridge for a few and open the container all the way and close the cage until they were all gone.

ok.. Looking like more like 100-200 hatched.
What am I gonna do with 200 flies. No way I can feed that many to my veiled and bearded dragon before they die. Uggg

I've heard you can feed them powered milk and sugar mixed and give them water cubes (or a piece of fruit) and they will stay alive for 30 days - never tried it -

I just had the same problem yesterday. I just opened the mesh bag and placed in in my terrarium for my Orchid Mantis. Took the pupae, once the flies crawled out of the bag and put that in the refrigerator.

Are the pupae supposed to be black and hard? That is all that is left in the mesh bag.... I tried to feed some to my sons fire bellied toads and they love them too. So I guess I will just wait the additional 1 1/2 weeks for the spikes next time...

Yes the pupae are black and hard. To hatch them just place a moist paper towel underneath them. Place the amount of pupae you want to hatch on top and leave at room temp.
