Hi all, just introducing myself. I want a panther chameleon one day, but my job has me traveling too much right now. I figured I'd lurk in this forum for a few years and absorb as much information as I can so when that day comes I'll be ready.

I have no experience with lizards. I currently keep green tree pythons, ball pythons, and a king snake. The chondros are more sensitive to husbandry errors than the other two species, so I am familiar with the importance of meeting and maintaining exacting care requirements. It looks like chameleons need good ventilation, and my whole reptile room is kind of weak on that point (it's not part of the central AC), so that's another reason to delay.

Right now my wife handles daily maintenance of the snakes while I'm gone, but she doesn't have to feed them. Handling bugs to feed a chameleon would be asking too much of her. I have to wait until the kids have matured and proven themselves responsible enough to handle the task before I pull the trigger on a chamy (have I got the term right?). My oldest daughter is fearless about insects and other creepy-crawlies (on our field herping trips I sometimes wonder if she's more wired for entomology), so she's my leading candidate.

Oh well, that's my story. I could be here a very long time before I have anything to contribute, but without joining I can't see all the pictures. So I joined and...Hello!

Welcome Buck.

I don't think the reptile room not being connected to the AC will make a difference. As long as it doesn't get too hot in there, they should be fine.

When most talk about them needing good ventilation they are referring to their cage needing to be screen instead of glass, wood, ect...
