Hello everyone,
Nice forum here-just found it. Ive had two chameleons my whole life, and both were happy and healthy. I always had other reptiles around at points in my life. Chams always stayed pretty high on my love list.
My first chameleon in Cairo, Egpyt- this was my first guy a Europeon or Common Chameleon...they are pretty drab but at 6 years old and no info on Chamelons at that time he was awesome.
He lived on a Balcony outside on an old christmas tree, he never ventured down much-he couldnt go over the edge because it was a foot high of concrete. For food it was park caught grasshopers every couple days-I had to walk a mile just to catch my feeders then. I never misted him...his water was given to him by straw. Hold one end and slowy release for a drip on his mouth. He tamed down pretty quick and soon was fast on the arm for a fat hopper.
One time I caught some kind of skink and at 6 years old thought they would be friends-but the cham had a diffrent outlook on it and had a very nice meal, while I cried. Sadly after two years we had to come back to the States and I could not bring him, so he was released into a wealthy British mans garden on about a couple acres down the road from where we stayed..
In 2007 I picked up a Panther Chameleon from Tyler at Bluebeast, he was awesome and my first attempt at a chameleon since I was 6. Care is much more involved when you dont live in the right climate. I never really had any problems with him. After three months I think he rubbed his eye on something and would keep it closed more than the other he still did all his normal chameleon routine without ever showing any signs of disease or infection. Vet said he was ok and also I took him to Tyler who agreed he looked great. Tyler eneded up watching him for a week or so and in that time, I found out my wife was pregnant. With the fears of being a new father and all that had to be done I did not want to neglect my little friend and told Tyler to sell him to someone else.
Now, my little girl is 8 months old and things are stable again. My wife fell in love with the chameleon-she had never seen one before him and I think that guy shot a love arrow right into her heart. I recently sent an application to rescue a Veiled Chameleon from Elisa from ChamEO-I belive she is a member on this forum. He is the second guy down on her adoptions page. I think he is a beuty, and cant wait to get him in January. I like the feisty ones for some reason
Thanks for reading my book and I look foward too many discussions here,
