Hey everyone and anyone. I have a male veiled cham and today I noticed he is breathing heavy. His mouth is closed, his lungs expand quite large. He seems to eat normal I mist him often and he sometimes hides in a corner awake or not for hours at a time. What possibilities cause such breathing habbits? Solutions? Ways to prevent? How can I fix him now? I am cleaning his cage now its due...also he is in an air flow glass terrarium designed for chams. He has a live plant terrarium with water in motion. Thanks for the help.

if conditions in the terrarium are too humid it can cause a thing called a respiratory infection. Usually they will open their mouth when they are having trouble breathing though. Heavy breathing is not normal. Waterfalls are frowned upon as they can breed bacteria and not good for drinking purposes. You say your chameleon is "awake or not". If your cham is sleeping during the day then you have a problem. If your chameleon does indeed have a respiratory infection. You will have to get him to a vet and get him put on a antibiotic.
