Heart Beating After Death…

Wow! But if the heart still beats, death hasn’t completely occurred though…has it?
When I sadly had to have two of mine euthanized, the vets (2 different ones) in explaining the process to me said that after all medication administration, my chameleon would then have it’s heart monitored all day to ensure it had truly passed. I assumed it was due to their ectothermic metabolism. When my other chameleon passed (and more recently one of my leopard geckos), I waited at least 1 1/2-2+ days before attending to the disposition of their remains to confirm they were gone (also to manage my grief). Now I somehow feel less crazy to have done so.

Brain death= death, not heart death necessarily. With people at least 🤷🏻‍♂️
