I read recently about how certain UVB lights can be bad for their eyes.

So I was wondering has anyone heard anything about 5.0 UVB reptile glo light it's like the long tube one.

Where did you read that UVB lights can be bad for their eyes?

The ReptiGlo lights are just a knock-off of the the ReptiSun lights, they are fine for chameleons.

The only thing I can think is you read about how CFL's are supposedly bad for pets, but that is outdated info.

That light is fine as is the Reptisun 5.0 tube which most of us use.

Not all UVB lights but like certain ones like the coil lights, it's just what I read when I was setting up his cage.

And I didn't want to take any chances so I'd thought I'd post on here and ask.


I'm def gonna buy a reptisun when it's time to replace the bulb I just couldn't find one

nothing wrong with you asking! That is a good thing! The Compact (CFL'S) were given a bad rap after there were some bad ones manufactured many years back that were putting out too much uvb. There are people who still use them on here with success also. The risk was getting a bulb that had been old stock that wound up on the shelf to be sold. Just stick with the tube and you don't have to worry!

I've read on the forum that some coil uv lights have caused real problems for chameleons, but no problems with any tube ones that I know of. The Reptiglo are the only ones they sell locally to me, so that's what I've got. When I replace them I will be getting Reptisun though, because they apparently emit a much better quality of light.

The reptisun coils were the ones that were causing problems.. but the new bulbs are fine.

Also, the reptiglo works just as well as the reptisun. The reptisun just lasts a little longer.

As has been said, it was the reptisun CFLs that had a manufacturing defect that caused it to emit unsafe levels of UVB and some UVC. This has been fixed but old bulbs still surface from time to time. The reptiglo CFLs did not ever have this problem.

I prefer reptiglo myself because it gives off a more yellow, natural light. The whiter light of the reptisuns washes out the color of my chams.
