Habba Mist - Again

I just bought a Habba Mist. The owner of the pet store ordered it for me with the agreement that if I didn't like it, I could bring it back for a full refund no questions asked.

I did see the reviews from a few people on here on it. It is true the spray is not a "mist" but a spray.

Anyway...the installation brackets are lame...two hooks or suction cups..so I put some hooks into the wall and hung it.

I'll do a full review on it and then probably return it to the store.

Here is a pic:

The thing I hated about my habba mist was that the resevour didn't last long. It also doesn't give a mist but a spray. I now use mine as an automated dripper. I had to do some modifications to it though. First I plugged it into a timer set to turn it on every 30 minutes and spray for 60 sec. Then I increased the resevour by glueing a 2 liter to it and cutting a hole in the 2 liter in order to pour in water. Now it acts as a dripper every 30 minutes. I still have my misters set up to mist 3 days a week just to be sure my cham is hydrated.

you need to add more plants into that cage chams like alot of cover security.and a uva uvb light howmuch was mister

More plants? My chameleon is 3 months old...he needs to be able to find his food. When he gets older and a bigger cage...he will have more vegatation in there. This cage already has 3 plants and two flex vines...that's all that fits anyway.

I have a Reptisun UVB 24" bulb on there..., a basking light, humidity system, dripper and that mister. Sorry...wasn't really asking for advice on how to take care of the chameleon...but thanks anyhow.

The mister was $49 bucks. Kinda pricey if you ask me...but if I decide I don't like it, I can return it...the owner of the pet store is a cool dude.

The habba mist might be good for other reptiles. But I would definetly install a real misting system later on. I'll post some pics of my modified habba mister later tonight.

Eh I hated that thing! The reservoir is way too small for adequate misting. The misting, as mentioned, isnt mist its spray. The tubing gets algae growth in it after time, especially if it runs in the enclosure and under the uvb lamp. It's loud, and I believe the sound of that thing may train the cham to respond and drink. Not sure if thats good or bad. Being able to place the tips in accurate spots is a PITA! The suction cups are horrible and if you use batteries they dont hold up. The hooks are pretty weak too. I ended up crafting my own carriage for it out of clothes hangers. It's really meant for small kind enclosures ( i assume they made it for glass terrariums/Vivs) and reps that dont require as much water supply.

But...for a young cham its probably adequate. Mine lasted about 2 weeks before I dumped it and bought the Pro-Mist setup. Couldn't be more happy. Im sure when your cham gets bigger and the enclosure gets bigger, you will want a better misting system.

i have a habba mist (spray) and it works great for my 65gal reptarium / juvenile vieled male. also i just hung it inside and don't use the extension hose and second spray head at all. definately not anything super impressive or top of the line but hey it beats the little dripper :p i didn't expect it to be whisper quiet, it's also a bit on the pricey side but overall i'm happy with mine.

I have been using it for a month now and I'm satisfied with it so far. I use the extension hose and hung it outside the cage on the wall. The sprayer head started clogging up a bit...and I had to mess with it to get it spraying again...but other than that..it works fine. I use distilled water and fill it once a week. It does beat the dripper...and I've stopped using it entirely.

So...I'm keeping it. By the way...the noise is nill...I'm not sure why people complain about it...I don't hear it. To me, it's pretty quiet....

The reason habba mists were not recommended was it only gives a few minutes of misting when your chameleon needs more like 30 minutes a day.

Well, that and they don't really "mist".

Our HabbaMist was quite loud. It was a joy to replace it with silent pump that makes real mist.

sierra what is the timing interval on your habba?

the only complaint i can see about this thing is the short spray time. and that is easily noted by lookin at the programming options, want a 20 minute spray then buy/build somethin else. it was never intended to be a cham-specific product at all.... geez people, i mean who in thier right mind buys a $50 prefab zoomed product (that takes batteries i might add) and expects the kind of performance you get from the $179 promist?? be realistic. the only complaint i have seen about the habba mist here is some form or another of "it's not as good as the promist/custom build/whatever"

like i said above i use this thing to replace the little dripper. it is primarily for drinking water, not misting. and it works quite well for this purpose.

for me, and i am sure others who may be lookin for real info on this product, don't really care about what's top of the line. if i post a thread askin for any reviews/tips for product A, and all i get back is "you can do a much better job with product B for 3x the price or more" then i haven't really been told anything about product A, have i? and i know some ass is gonna come along as say something like... 'well you know that it's a POS next to B and you shouldn't buy it' which may be true... but the bottom line is - can i get something superior for the same or less money?? nope.

i'm sure we all would love a promist but until that day comes my cheap POS will get the job done :D

the only complaint i can see about this thing is the short spray time.

My main complaint about it is that it should be called the HabbaSpit. It doesn't "mist" at all; it just sprays globs of water. The mist it produces is nowhere near what a $3 spray bottle can do.

Well, actually, just about twice the cost (if you know where to look).

The difference in my cham's reactions to the real misting nozzles and the HabbaSpit are amazing. I don't know if it's because of the noise or the droplet size difference, but it's pretty cool. She actually climbs up into the mist now and would avoid it altogether from the HabbaSpit.

Your can do a home made system for about $60-65 if you find a pump for a good price on Ebay. I have had the Habba Mist and it is night and day. I now have a system similar to the ProMist with a diaphragm pump and timer setting that will do anything I want. Got the pump on Ebay for $35 delivered and with everything else it was around $65. Bottome line is you can make something better at close to the cost and you don't need to know anything special to get it done.

I use the 1/4 inch tubing from torro and hook it up to their misting nozzles and run it straight from my laundry tub faucet and i also use a lawn sprinkler timer so it goes on 4 times a day by itself. You can do this type of setup for under 100 bucks.
