Gut Loading for calcium

Found some articles some may find interesting. Turns out most commercial gut loaders who claim to be high calcium are not.

Here is a PDF from Animal Medical Center containing two recommendations based on the above authors two papers. Seems M Finke did another paper on commercial gut loading diets for crickets and found another good one. I don't have that paper yet. This is also a good guidline for all insectivorous reptiles and seems to fall in line with chameleon care on these forums. http://amccorona.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Feeding-Insect-eating-reptiles.pdf

The two brands recommended were Hi-Ca Cricket Diet (Mazuri® ) and Calcium Plus Food for Crickets (T-Rex® ). The other diets did not significantly raise the calcium levels. Significantly, even the highest calcium diets did not raise the calcium much above the phosphorus level so dusting is still required.
