gravid determinations

plump belly maybe with lumpy egg shapes showing/colouration/restless behaviour/digging/drinking more but going off food when close to laying.

I am sure that there are lots of other people on this forum who could answer this question better than me though LOL.

IMO observations of weight gain is the key sign for detecting pregnancy. Lets assume you weigh your female weekly, and you notice in one week she has gained nearly 10g  That significant of an increase in weight would lead me to directly believe that she is gravid :D

roger roger. I do the same thing with all of my females. buying a scale in this is a must have in my opinion if you plan on breeding, especially species that are particularly sneaky in hiding the fact they are carring eggs or live young because females wont always show textbook signs of carrying.

All very interesting ways of determining being gravid,

I have a jackson, that was thought to be gravid in june. I have noticed that her belly is getting a little bigger. She has a little pop belly now. She dropped a few slugs about 2 mos ago and none since. I am anxiously awaiting to see what comes next. And I am also wondering if she is still actually gravid.

I never weighed my chams so I have no base line to go on. But I do know that behavior can also be a good sign too. I just recently brought my male out and showed them to each other and holy crap she flatened out and began hissing. First time:eek:. I know not to do that too often due to stress. but I am still curious....

It's like xmas and I want to peak at the gifts...unfortunately I can't..

Well, a vet could 'peek at the gifts' with an ultrasound. And I think you should consider a vet visit.
I had a female jacksonii a few years back who got pretty heavy but never laid any slugs. She was eating fine and very active so I thought she was just fat and didn't have her checked for more than a year. At that time her behavior seemed to change a bit so I took her to the vet. Turns out she'd been carrying embryos all that time but for some reason had never dropped them. At this point the embryos had caused an infection in her abdomen and she started to go down hill fast. The vet wasn't able to save her.

I'm not saying that that's what is going on with yours, but if you have the vet do an ultrasound you'll at least know if she's carrying any more slugs.

I never knew they could do an US on such a small animal...

R there any more Low tech ways to determin this.

Not to my knowledge. With the female I mentioned in my previous post the vet actually didn't think she was gravid until after the ultrasound, because she couldn't feel the eggs.
