Hello! I am new to the site and recently inherited a female Veiled Chameleon from someone who did not know what they were doing. They kept her in a 5 Gallon tank with a mesh top.

She is approximately 4 to 6 months old according to the person I got her from, which if correct means she is probably smaller than she should be because I have looked up Chams about her age and they seem much fatter and longer in body, so who knows how old she actually is.

Since receiving her I have been attempting to make the ideal habitat and such for her, little by little. I bought a 24x24x48 Repti breeze have put branches and driftwood in there after treating it to the best of my abilities to make it safe for her. I have a few fake plant like things that I have bought and some left over from when I had fish (Need more green stuff). I have a ReptiGlo 5.0 UVB along with a heating bulb that I received with her that generally heats up a small area to about 80-88 degrees. I plan on gutloading crickets starting with the next time I get some since I now have a small cricket cage as of today. I have fed her crickets a grasshopper the occasional fly and have attempted to feed her green grapes.

She seems to hate me until I am actually holding her then she goes green.

So from this info am I on the right track do I need to change anything?

Where do you guys find pothos and other safe plants that have not been treated with pesticides, specifically neonicotinoid?

Where can I find a substrate tray?

Thank you so much in advance!

Welcome to the forums. I keep veileds and just love the little girls. You can see my veileds here: https://www.chameleonforums.com/my-beautiful-veileds-142194/
If you don't have a UVB meter you will need to replace the UV bulb every 6 months. Do you have the long tube style UVB bulb? I'm not sure where you are located but I buy allot of my plants at Lowes or Home Depot. If you wash them well and replant them they should be fine. Do you have any photos of your girl? What's her name? Below is my blog for new keepers. Hopefully you will find it helpful. https://www.chameleonforums.com/blo...-keepers-young-veiled-panther-chameleons.html

Hello, thanks for the reply. Her name is Guinevere. I thought I could wash the pesticides away but the pesticide that was used on most of the common Cham plants at Home Depot starts in the seed and is in the plant not on it. It could take up to three years for the neonicotinoid to leave the plant entirely.

I have CFL like UVB bulb from Exo Terra.

Please be aware that veiled chameleons can lay eggs without mating once sexually mature so you need to provide her an appropriate place to dig in her cage to let you know when it's time to lay eggs.

Yes, another reason why I am trying to find some kind of tub that fits just right in the enclosure so I can have enough substrate for her to dig.
