I'm Mark and I'm going to be keeping chameleons in NW Iowa. I'm doing some reading at this point. Bartlett & Bartlett. Ferguson, Kalisch, and McKeown. We were most interested in graceful, flap-necked, and senegal chameleons, but since we've started looking into it and asking around, we've heard nothing but unequivocal negative things about these couple of species in particular. It has come as a surprise to us. How much credibility do these comments have? What is or what are the main reasons for avoiding gracilis? Well, hello, again. Looking forward to learning a lot here!

Hello and welcome to the forum. So Iowa is it? I went to college in Ames.
I have no idea why anyone would say negative things about those chams. The only thing anyone can say is it is very difficult to locate a captive bred cham in those species. I had a senegal and it was a wonderful cham. It was as good as any cham I have had. Willing to be held, came to the front so you could see him, and always willing to eat and drink. What more could you ask? But you can ask if you have questions.

Hello Mark.... I am also new to the forum and live in NW Iowa as well.
I have been gathering and as much info as possible on a panther chameleon and have had concerns on whether our climate would have a negative effect on them. What are your thoughts? We are probably neighbors! LOL

Your climate is only a problem, if you let it be a problem. I live in Montana, 30 miles south of Canada. We hit -30 at least couple times every winter, that is actual temp, before wind chill. This is a really old thread but I will be happy to help you. Ask away with your questions and I will do my best to answer. You will get a lot more help if you start a new thread. That way people will see you are new and will offer advice and friendship.
