Girl or Boy?

Hello I just recently purchased a new Senegal Chameleon. I was told that it was a girl by the seller but he didn't seem very confident in telling me so. I wanted to be sure before naming my little lady just in case, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can’t decide if I see little ear flaps on that one or not. If there are flaps then that is not a Senegal Chameleon. Is it possible to post some larger photos; some of the head and some showing the body, back of feet and tail base?

Welcome to the forums!

Cheers,
Trace

Thank you for the welcomes! :) Sorry, I didn't realize my picture was so tiny when I first uploaded it. I will try to post some larger pictures.

Awesome! Those shots are much better thank you! Sadly my eyes aren’t what they used to be. :(

Yes that is a Senegal Chameleon and it’s a female. Male Senegals have a fairly marked hemipenal bulge (man areas) and this one doesn’t. In most instances Senegal Chameleons are wild caught and as such in poor condition. However, she looks really good! It’s a rare thing to see a healthy Senegal. Me likey! Is she a captive bred animal do you know?

I’ve kept a few Senegals myself and have found them to be calm and relaxed. Not gregarious like some species but not overly timid either. They aren’t picky eaters so offer her lots of different bugs to see what she likes.

If you have any questions about your new chameleon, please don’t be shy about asking. There are several keepers on the boards with experience in Senegals. Have fun with her!

Cheers,
Trace

Hello Trace,

Thank you so much for clearing it up for me. I was having a crisis in what to name her haha. From what I understand from the seller she is captive bred, but I have no idea how old she is for sure other than she is a few months old. She is great and I love her. I've tried some superworms as a treat from her normal crickets and she no likey as much. I'm going to try some silkworms next.
