Ghann's Crickets... how many should I get?

Hi guys, I have only one chameleon but was wondering if it would be okay if I got 1000 5/8" crickets at a time so I wouldn't have to buy again for a while. I read that crickets do much better when bought from a reputable dealer rather than most commercial pet stores. I also want to buy a lot because shipping is sooo expensive. I would house them in a large rubbermaid bin with egg cartons and provide them w/ cricket crack and fresh greens and fruits. Thanks!

Crickets don't live as long as some other feeders. So make sure you take care of them (clean regularly and feed). Because they cannibalize each other. Also, depending on how many crickets your chameleon will eat daily. If he/she eats around 7 then maybe 500 crickets might be good as they won't die off.
So basically don't over buy.
Have you tried feeding your chameleon dubia roaches?

I'm not sure what species Ghann's is selling these days but as a rough guideline crickets take 60 days to mature, then maybe another 30 days before they kick the cricket bucket.

How many you feed off a day should determine what sizes you get to be able to actually use 1,000. I bet if you asked the nice folks at Ghann's they could help you with what sizes will live until it is time to feed them off.

For me I feed @50 full sized crickets a week so I would ideally split my cricket order into batches of 200 for each month of cricket growth. This won't work 100% because reality isn't that easy but is a good guideline to decide what sizes to order...

I do indeed feed and breed dubia. I'll probably go with 500 if I go with Ghann's route. My cham will eat about 40 crickets a week or so. I'm sure the size of the cricket would make a difference, but i'm not 100% what to get because at the pet store there are only "small" or "large" cricks.

Thanks for your input yall'

I decided to get the 500 of the 5/8" cricks. They're ordered and should be arriving tomorrow. I want these crickets to live as long as possible (by the way, how long is that?)... As mentioned earlier, i have only one cham; I was hoping to hopefully try and breed them, but I'll be out of town from the 21st to the 30th, so I was really concerned with getting the cricket bin prepped. It was surprisingly tough to get proper ventilation. I have 2 sides and the top of the bin replaced with screen. I have a 60w bulb shining down on the enclosure and they'll be fed cricket crack along with fresh greens and apples as well as carrots while I'm gone. Sound good? Thanks guys!

How is the cricket crack? I never used it before. I need some type of dubia crack. Just purchased some dubia chow and my roaches don't care for it.
