Getting started

Hey everyone, I have been working on getting my set up going and had a few questions. First, I have a 16 X 30 X 28 Reptarium and was wondering what Chams this size enclosure would be suitable for (or for how long before they would grow out of it).

I was also wondering what size UVB light (plan on going with the Reptisun 5.0 since that seems to be highly recommended by many of the members) I will need for this size cage? I currently have an 18 inch from another glass tank, but I didn't know if I needed to get a longer one or just a new bulb for it as well as a normal light for the basking next to it?

I'm sure I will have more questions for this thread as I continue to get things set up. I am taking my time to do my homework and want to make sure I get everything prepared properly so please forgive me for any "newbie" questions. Thanks in advance!

This should be alright for a Jackson's, Carpet, and a few other small chams, although you would probably want to upgrade in the future to something a tad taller. As far as UVB lighting goes, just make sure its as wide as the enclosure and you should be fine.

You ahould probley decide what species of cham you want first. Before collecting supplies. Because some species will require something totally different than others. Panthers and Veileds are good beginner chams.

Thanks bigcappa, I think I am going to use this to start out and then build something bigger and can turn this smaller one into an outdoor basking cage/holding cage during cleanings.

Thanks TR, I am just getting the basics set up for now and needed to find out what chams my cage would be big enough for. Now that I know I'll have to either go with a smaller breed or just use my current cage temporarily, it looks like I need to make the BIG decision of what breed to go with :D

I am going to head to Lowes after work to look for a Ficus and a bottom liner/drip pan.

I agree with Texas Ranger. I suggest deciding what species you would like to work with, and go from there. Like they said, Veileds and Panthers are good beginner species, although Jacksons can be fairly easy if you set the enclosure up before you purchase the chameleon.
