Getting prepared.

I have a 15x15x24 cage I am getting ready to house my 2nd chameleon. When he arrives he should be about 3 months old. I made a little base out of dowels I bought at Menards and cut up with my pocket knife lol. I sanded grooves into them with another dowel for a good fit and used a little nail to secure it. The thing is surprisingly sturdy and precise. I am so proud lol!

If you need a perfect gift for a handy person, get them a Gerber pocket knife, there is nothing that thing can't do. I love mine, one of the best gifts I have received in my 29 years of life.

I made a base to suspend the cage to make the pot of the scheffola or however you spell it more hidden and not so dominate in the cage. I am using some wooden dowels for branches in this enclosure like I saw in an old post that had a few triangles within the cage at various heights. I will also be putting in some bio-vines to provide some vertical highways.

I remember reading in an old post about a possible foot issue dealing with the diameter of the branches. Currently I will be using 7-16" dowels and I feel that will be good but wanted to know if this would be too big or too small?

Also, how long could a 3 month old guy be housed in such dimensions before he would have to move on up to the east side deluxe apartment?

hah Hes going to be another panther..an Anbanja to be exact. If all goes ideal then perhaps he will be my first breeding project. There is a lot to learn before that comes to fruitation though so...as the title says, I am just getting prepared. Cage is near completion I will post some more pics then, looks like I picked up a little cat model.

The dowels may not be too big or small but you want to make sure there are several different diameters and textures available for him to climb on. The variety keeps their feet healthier. I know in birds it's extremely important to preventing foot problems. I guess there aren't a whole lot of issues in chams people have talked about regarding that, but usually people have lots of twisty vines and real plants in their cage so maybe we're already doing it right and that's why!

The stand looks nice, very creative!

Nothing like cage construction and a Coors light?! lol! I had mine since 4 1/2 months old in his adult cage. You can secure the rods on the outside with push pins, but maybe you know this already! I thought my branches were "wedged" in enough on the sides til my poor little cham went tumbling when the branch fell! Just an extra precaution!

Those beers caught up quick....well once the 12 pack was gone anyways. Looks like I was having fun. Here some of the rest of the pics and apparently a video I made with one of our cats before putting the vines in. Gotta love digital cameras for those who like to mess around!

Whats funny is that I dont even have any extra of those fake vines. They are all in Samson's cage. I woke up this morning and I had a small section of fake vine in this new little set up and a newly bare spot in Samsons cage lol. He has lots of cover though, he hasn't seemed to mind.
