Hello everyone. I am a very new member to this forum and currently own a female veiled chameleon and a brand new baby blue bar chameleon. Im mainly making this post to encourage people who have had past frustrations and people who are skeptical about adopting one of these guys. When you first bring your guy or gal home, you are going to have A TON of questions. And from my own personal experience this is the best possible place to get all of those answers to your questions aside from a professional. At the same time, i would like to encourage everyone to be able to dedicate a good portion of their spare time to their chameleon, and if the owner or future owner is not able to, to wait until you are able to. As stated many times, chameleons require EXTENSIVE research and care to be happy and healthy and although they may seem an awesome pet to have, they are not like an average dog or cat. You need to pay attention to them each and every day. You need to make sure there environment is the best it can possibly be in your care, that you are paying attention to any signs of sickness and discomfort, and most important that you are feel comfortable raising these guys and girls. I can recall times where my female veiled Adelle had a hue of yellow in her urate and i panicked for about 3 days until it returned to bright white. Every minute i had i spent misting and providing a drip system for her to regain her normal and healthy hydration. But i suppose all the problems you encounter makes you an overall better owner and you can pass that knowledge on to others in real life or even here on these forums. I guess to sum it all up, every day i have owned one of these amazing creatures it has been an awesome adventure, filled with both stress and complete and utter euphoria. I encourage everyone to give these guys a chance, but only if you are able to care for it properly and have the time to devote to it. I would also like to jump off topic and say that this forum has provided me with nothing but joy, as all the members i have encountered so far have been EXTREMELY helpful and nothing short of kind. I thank all of you, and wish you and your chameleon a happy new year and many more to come!
