So, I'm planning on getting a panther chameleon probably from a show in november hoping he will probably be a few months old and wont need to be into this enclosure until around march but I want a jump start building and supplies if you guys can help out and let me know what knowledge i have is correct or could be changed.
materials planned:
4x8 sheet of melamine plywood (maybe almond?) open to other suggestions
aluminum meshing
1x8/2x8 8foot long piece of wood. all i see is spf or cedar.
Not sure of which sealant to get yet, or what stuff to treat the wood with, ive seen alot of people say minwax spar urethan. suggestions appreciated.
planning on going 24Lx24dx48h. I want to do an all mesh cage but as my heat sucks and can be fairly cold in the winter i want to be able to to put wood back if i need too with some sort of latching to hold in place. ( my mom used the example like the backing of a picture frame)
with the single sheet of 4x8 plywood it doesnt leave me any wood for the bottom which is what the 1x8/2x8 8 foor piece is for i was going to cut 4 2ft pices 3 of which are needed for the bottom and the 4thpiece i was going to run inside the enclosure near the top to be able to hang live plants from.
Lastly, drainage system do i need one or not? im planning on housing live plants, ill be misting by hand unless i end up changing my mind, but if im not home someone else will be to mist. I want a sturdy bottom so i can support plants, suggestions appreciated thanks.
