I was looking into getting new Fruit Fly colonies (mine got invaded by flying ones )
Is the care of Hydei the same as Melanogaster (which is what I've been using)?
Do they have similar life cycle lengths?
Is there an advantage to one over the other?
Melanogaster produce flies quicker, but hydei are a bit bigger. I like them better. They require a little more attention to how and when you start and seed new cultures. If you don't time them right they can crash.
