Hi, all. This is my first time posting on the board, though I've been a lurker for quite sometime on these boards. I am the proud mommy of a two-year-old male C. calyptratus named Tinykins.
A while back, wore a neon fuchsia sweater and walked into the living room, where Tinykins resides in his free range. Immediately, he freaked out, like really freaked out, like bird or plane freaking out. He turned dark brown and proceeded to pretend that he is a stick (his favorite way of alerting me of danger). Today, I wore a scarf in the same color fuchsia, and he reacted in the same way. As soon as I took the scarf off, he was back to normal. He rotated around on the stick so that I could see him and he turned green.
I tested a few other colors, like neon yellow, bright red, and purple, and he doesn't react to any of these in the same way.
He is not defensive or anything, just terrified, as if I were a predator. He does the same thing when I take him out for walks and he sees a (insert any moving thing here).
So my question is this. Has anyone else witnessed this behavior in their chameleons? And what on Earth is neon fuchsia that could be so dangerous in the wild?
Thanks for your help!
