fogger

Hi!

I have a pygmy cham (brevicaudatus) in a glass terrarium with 60x45x60 cm and I'm using a fogger (ultrasonic) twice a day for 15 minutes... am I meeting his humidity needs?

Thanks!

What is the humidity reading in the cage?

How are you providing him with drinking water?

You should read Roo's article on caring for Brevs: http://www.chameleonnews.com/brevcare.html

He recommends a humidity reading of about 70%, and also says you should be misting (spraying) the enclosure twice a day. He doesn't mention anything about ultrasonic foggers, but I presume that if used correctly, they could serve the same purpose as a cool-mist humidifier.

ALthough I spray the enclosure twice a day and programmed the fogger to turn on twice a day too, but I'm always afraid the cham falls in the bowl of water (foggers use big bowls of water and they cannot be completely covered) and drowns... Did any of you had that knd of problem?

When I used one of those ultrasonic foggers I put it in a covered bowl on TOP of the enclosure. I made a lid for the container that protuded over the one side of the container which had a slight lip, leaving a slight gap between the lid and the lip.
That way the 'fog' would roll out under the lid and over the lip, and then down into the cage. So billowing 'clouds' of mist that would flow down into the cage.

That avoids the problem of having a bowl your cham can drown in.
However it does create other problems:
- You have to have something built above your enclosure to support the weight of the water bowl (this can be tricky with screen-top enclosures).
- The mist forms water droplets on the lid of the bowl and these drip down and splash into the enclosure, sometimes causing a bit of a mess (if you position it well though, you could use it as a 'dripper')
