Fluorescent Mounting Fixture

What do you guys think of this thing? It seems like it would take up less space than a regular fluorescent hood, but do you think the light distrubution would be good enough? I know the photo isn't the best...

Its still 18 inches. So it takes up the same amount of length. But not the same width. It would work.

That exact fixture is $8.99 at Wal Mart and holds the 24" bulbs. Just pop off the plastic lens and you are good to go. They have the one that fits 18" bulbs for $7.99! I use many of them.

On the left is the 18" and on the right is the 24" fixture.

I can't tell from your pic...does the fixture have any kind of reflector? If not, does it matter?

No reflectors on those-but you can make reflectors for them. I had been experimenting with that but got busy. I don't seem to have any issues without the reflectors-but my guys also get lots of sun.
