first weird poo & now digging??

Was wondering if there might any reason why my male veiled seemed to be attempting to dig the bottom of his cage?

What are your temps like? Usually when males dig it has to do with temperatures.

Are you positive it's a male? Does he have spurs on the back of his hind feet?

Ah, his temps were also suggested as cause of his poo having undigested insects in. When I looked at his temp half hour ago, it was 83, & it's now 86. I'm having a really hard time getting it to stay constant. I haven't been moving the lamp, just tweeking his thermostat. I turned it down a little and the temp went up!

He's 4.5 months. The petshop told me he was male & I haven't had anyone on here say he looks female. I can post some more photos, if someone can double check please?

I'm starting to think it is a temp thing, cos that ties in with his funny poo

No, they usually dig because it's too hot or really really cold (like 40s and lower.) Pictures would be good. If it's actually a female it could have eggs.

look at the back of the back feet. If you see a little spur or point sticking out then it is a male. If not, a female. Hate to tell you how many times pet stores are wrong! Post pics of the back of the back feet and we will confirm the sex for you.

He's male. Have you added anything to his cage recently? He might not like it and is trying to get out.

I haven't added anything. He only does this in the evening. I'm getting a him a bigger cage for him tomorrow & I guess that will upset him more

Rebecca be careful when you alter your thermostat. I became obsessional about the temps after the fuse blew on my ceramic and the temps dropped. Took ages to correct the temps and poor Popeye sustained a thermal burn. Your temps will change after misting and after opening the door. Has your probe moved?

I know you're right and those thing will change his temp. I think I've become a bit obsessional because I've been stuck at home with a tummy bug and nothing but poor old Neelix to look at. I'll try to change not to keep playing with the thermostat and stop worrying about it. Wouldn't want him to get a burn

Sex mixups do happen. Sometimes, even with breeders
