First Time Chameleon Owner

Hello everyone! Firstly, Thank you for taking the time to read my post!

Recently I've been doing a lot of research on chameleons and similar reptiles, after a while of consideration I went down to my local pet supplier and bought an entire chameleon setup, along with a young veiled chameleon.

I've owned several different types of reptiles and also tarantulas, I understand chams can be a bit of a challenge , but I'm ready to take on that challenge!

I just wanted some advice on my little guy, I only want the best for him so I will post the info about my setup, any feedback or criticism is welcome.

I've included some pictures of him and the enclosure.

Ontop of the enclosure I have an Exo Terra Compact fluorescent terrarium canopy, and for the bulbs i am using 1 Exo-Terra Reptile UVB 100 , 26W. And one Zoo-Med Moonlite reptile bulb 25w.

I have a daily routine that I keep up with, every morning I will re-fill the water source in his humidifier (It's the log looking thing in the back), then mist the leaves of his cage with water, scoop out any visible droppings, and then feed him roughly 10 small crickets. Later when I get home from work, I will mist his cage another time to keep up the humidity.

I have a small cricket keeper that I keep about 50 crickets so I only have to make a trip to the pet store every few days, I feed his crickets Luker's orange cubes which are high in vitamins.

I have handled him a few times, basically if I stick my hand in there sometimes he will crawl right onto my hand, which if he does that's great and I will let him crawl over my hand and arm for a few minutes. Sometimes I stick my hand in there and he turns dark or hisses, which I then immediately leave him alone.

I hope I have everything set-up right for the little guy! He seems to be happy, but I just want to make sure!

Very nice set up so far! I would highly recommend putting some more plants in the enclosure - possibly real ones that are now (since its summer) so easy to get your hands on!

I highly recommend Ficus plants or any Dracaena. These plants are non-toxic for your cham if he decides he wants to munch on them, and it also helps with the humidity! They will feel more secure the more "full" the cage is - so feel free to stick a couple plants in there! Just ensure that there is no fertilizer in the soil that they are planted in (normally you'll have to transplant them) and/or you can put rocks as the top layer above the soil so he will not be tempted to think that soil is a snack!

Cheers~

Thank you very much for the timely responses! I'll be sure to give the crickets a better diet than the orange cubes, good to know. Also, I am planning on getting more greenery ! :)

Lovely Setup

I like your setup and really thinks that it will keep the cham in comfort. Thanks
