Been waiting to get a Chameleon for awhile. I thought it was the right time! Here is my baby "Hiccup"! He is already eating from feeding tongs. If any of you have some good beginner tips let me know.
aquariums are not ment for chameleons get a screen cage. use a reptisun 5.0 uvb light and also have a heat lamp in your new screen cage. Put a live umbrella plant in there sometimes you can get them at walmart. mount different basking spots using dowl rods you can get them at lowes. feed your chameleon crickets feed the crickets well make sure they are healthy than dust your crickets everyday with rapashys calcium plus it looks like this http://www.chameleonsonly.com/index.php?p=product&id=291&parent=22&is_print_version=true hope this helps i promise you get him out of that aquarium its bad news they need to be misted 3-4 times a day the bottoms of my cages are plastic and the umbrella plants are hanging so it makes it easy to clean their cages every other day Also fake plants made of silk cant clog your chams digestive system
I agree, you need to change the enclosure. Glass is ok as long as it is a terrarium which is vented towards the bottom, fish tanks are not. Also, you may have a female chameleon there and not a male. It is kinda hard to tell from your pic, but the males have little points or spurs on the back of their back heels. If yours does not, then it is a female. Females can lay eggs without mating and you will need to get her a laying bin from about 4 months of age on. First lets determine if you have a female and we can tell you what to do. You have your chameleon in a horizontal enclosure, and you need something more vertical. They like heighth. Also branches and vines that they can grip their feet around. Well, welcome to chameleon ownership and the forums. You have come to the right place to learn about chameleons! Oh and no substrate in the bottom of the cage either (mulch, wood, rocks) these are all things you chameleon can injest and die from
The screen cage is coming in tomorrow. I got a Repti-breeze that is 36 inches tall. I have been doing my research and making sure I do everything right. I have been gut loading crickets and dusting them with Calcium. Are you sure bedding is a bad idea. Should not have anything down there? Moss? Also is umbrella plant a plant that just flops over into an umbrella shape? Thanks for the tips!
No it's a plant that is safe for chameleons look it up in google images and too much calcium could be bad that's why I use rapashys once a day calcium u dust the crickets with it everyday and it has the right amount of all the vitamins u need
How many crickets should I be feeding my little guy a day? Also, I have been getting small crickets because I was not sure if he is ready for Large yet, when do I start feeding him large crickets.
