First chameleon!

Hello all. I got a senegal chameleon as kind of an impulse buy. I had been doing some research, but my parents were not keen on the idea so I stopped researching. They finally caved on the day I was heading to a reptile convention with a friend, where I picked up my chameleon for $20. Now after having it and researching I realize it is most certainly wild caught, and I probably should have spent significantly more.

It was pretty stressed out by the time I got it home, but has made pretty much a full recovery by today.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care? Senegal, female, unsure of age approximately 5" in length not including tail. Been in my care for 24hrs
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?I handled her a bit on the drive home, she preferred to be on my hand than in the bag.
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? crickets! I am not sure how many she is actually getting, I discovered a few places they can escape from my crappy cage, but have watched her eat at least 6, haven't really been able to gut load the crickets as I just got them as well, but I have them eating apple slices for now.
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? zoo med repti calcium with d3, every two weeks, unless you would recommend otherwise? I also plan on taking him outside a fair bit as I live in florida and the weather is gorgeous.
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking? I have drip system set up and I am misting twice a day by hand with warm water. Chameleon is drinking.
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? have not seen fecal droppings yet... would they hit the floor or would they be stuck to the vines of his jasmine? I have been trying to keep my face out of his cage for now until he gets more comfortable
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions? 15x30x30H, screen
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? 15w zilla t8 tropical series 25, lighting is on from 9am-9pm by timer
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps? 85-80, with temp dropping to 75 at night
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity? not sure, but should be fairly humid.
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind? Yes vine jasmine
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? cage is in my bedroom, top of the cage is a little over 6' from the floor. Cage is somewhat close to an air vent, but my room is at the end of the AC run so I get very little air back here.
Location - Where are you geographically located? central florida

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

Other than possibly the lack of fecal droppings, my only concern is what am I missing?

Also I found out the zilla bulb isn't the best, but my local petco doesn't carry reptisun so I will have to order one.

Okay I'm not sure if the zilla tropical light puts out UVB or not.. so hopfully u know If it does..

If no one comes by with Senegal supplementing schedual base. I recommend posting a thread titled Senegal supplementing.. cause d3 every two weeks but needs to be unaccompanied by more.frequent plain NO D3 CALCIUM also a multivit but again not familiar with Senegal supplementing recommendations..

Thanks for the reply!

The bulb I have advertises UVB on the box, but it also seems highly technical and could be misleading. Says 50 microwatts UVB @4" 25 microwatts at 12" I don't know if that is good or not. He can get up to about 3" from the light. Currently he is chilling about 12" from the light in a nice little hiding spot that has light and water, but makes him almost impossible to see.

It sounds like the Bulb will do the job those are pretty accurate stats.

I still recommend starting a new thred based onbthe supplementing if someone doesnt come by soon
As far as venalation keep a door open or window cracked when you can maybe run a fan in the room on occasion.

I also recommend.d u get the night temps down to low 70's or mid to high 60's

Hi! That light should be okay. You want to find calcium without D3 and use that daily. With D3 2x/month is okay. You also want a multi vitamin that you should use 2x/month as well.

Is the basking spot 3 inches from the bulb or is the bulb 3 inches above the cage?

That's great info right there.. wat I woukd of said but wasnt positive

Thank you for the replies!

I am off to the pet store to pick up the calcium and vitamins. Is there any particular brands I should look for? The bulb is resting directly on the top of the cage, and the basking spot is about 3" from the top of the cage.

I like rep-cal for calcium and herptivite for multivitamen. and ur lights look good. Maybe a pinch to close but not to bad

Also being wild caught is not neccesarily good or bad.. more bad than good unfortunately
U should take It to a vet as soon as u can to get it in with a Fecal sample to get checked for parasites or anything else that could be wrong..
And i firmly belive a wild caught wilk never be as happy :) but just try as hard as possible and I wish u the best!

That's what drives me nuts about reptisun vs. Zilla. Its hard to compare them because they are using very different metrics. When I have time (HA!) I plan to sit down and do some calculations to get the major brands into a common unit so people can compare. Personally, I question the quality of zilla but I appreciate that they put their UVB output more precise terms (I mean, with reptisun, 5 percent UVB on the 5.0 bulbs, what the heck does that mean? 5% total energy? 5% luminosity? 5% intensity? Could be a bunch of things. Light does not behave the same way as milk and water. Although those 3 might scale.... been a while since I took a physics class....).

Ugh, sorry, that post was completely pointless. I just got out of a non-euclidean geometry exam and I am kind of POed.
