First Chameleon Thoughts

After months of research and lots of help from the forums, finally got Luna the chameleon. Super healthy as she looks, trying to feed her more than the pet store because she is quite slim and she eats like a pig.

Yes I know not a great idea on the mossy stick, she has tried to nip pieces of but ends up spitting them out, I put Kale on recently and that fixed the issue.

Just one question for now, how long do the chams normally bask for and do they normally need help finding their food when so young? Thanks everyone!

Can you post pics of her whole enclosure? Not sure about needing help, I would think of you had the appropriate cage size she wouldnt. What are the dementions? Stark basks most of the day, not sure about others. Usually 12 hours lights on and 12 hours lights off is good.

Basking times depend on a lot of thing like how hot the spot is and what the chams internal temp was before basking. Finding food also depends on a lot of things as well like how active the feeder is when you put them in there and if they like to hide. Roaches like to hide right away when you put them in the cage, while I notice crickets, while not as active during the day as they are during the night, are still somewhat active during the day and will crawl around the cage during the day. If your going to let the feeder free roam it can help if you put a small dish of the feeders food in the cage. Or you can cup feed.
I would also suggest that you add more cover to your cage. Little one like to hide and can get stressed from not having enough spots to hide.

Will do, I appreciate all the help, and I thought it looks a little bare. Here's a full size cage, reason why I have moss on the bottom was trouble with humidity but I'm removing it soon. Dimensions are 24x24x48 because I didn't want to constantly rebuild and get a larger cage.

Also I feed her with a cricket feeder that hangs, she likes to walk over and pick them off.

They need to be close enough to absorb it. They need it so they dont get metabolic bone disease or mbd. I would move it to about 7 inches. Make sure to replace it every 6 months though! Also remember to supplement with calcium with out d3 most feedings and 2 times a month a multivitamin and calcium with d3

Yup have been doing calcium w/o d3 every feeding! She seems real healthy, very perky and just digests under the basking lamp. Another question, how old are females when they typically begin the egg laying process?

I am not exactly sure because I have a male but every animal is diffrent. I think its around 7 to 9 months but am not positive. Maybe someone with female experience will chime in
