Imagine this is a piece of wood. now... the part facing upwards is the outside, the inside is facing towards the bottom of the page, and then you have the piece of wood in between. For most of the pieces, we used that inner most piece.

So the lining is actually pretty much flush with any piece and is then rolled so that the big guy can't get hurt on any cut edges. For the chicken wire? we just posted it on the outside edge.
We used nails for screen/chicken wire. By the way, chicken wire is plastic and not metal. Not sharp. Works quite well actually for attaching vines to it.
