Just a random question, but I noticed in your other post you said you were only thirteen. When you mated your veileds, did you talk to your parents about this.? They have A LOT of babies, all which take lots to time, money, care, and space. I'm sure you aren't going to be providing all that money...

ya i am thirteen and. . . . .and my parents help me out on alot of stuff and my moms going to go and buy an incubator this weekend no offense to you but im taking this kind of offensive and it gets me mad im guessing your a kid too and i dont want to start any arguements or anything ive been on this forum for a long time and i know what im doing and talking about. . .

I hope you know what you got yourself into.. Hopefully you're not going to be overwhelmed by all the work that taking care of babies takes.. It's not a walk in the park.. its not nearly as easy as taking care of 2 adults.. its much, much more work.

first of all thanks for putting this in a nice way and ya i know its ALOT of work ive been planning on breeding for 3 years now and ive kept my females temps down and i dont over feed her as i dont want her to produce alot of eggs but yes i am prepared and getting even more prepared so im not stuck at the last moment:p

I wasn't mean for you to take that offensively. And I'm not exactly a kid. I'm seventeen and work two jobs. If and when I breed, because like you I do plan on breeding in the next one to two years, it will be a bit different then your situation. I just think it's a lot for a thirteen year old to take care of. I was just making sure you took note of what we are saying, since you earlier did not listen to us.

I do hope this doesn't effect your female to much though, and you will have beautiful pics in about 6-9 months.

since you earlier did not listen to us.

.

ummm let me see you've been on this forum for about 3 months and ive been on here for 11 months and ive done so much research and reading ect... and i know what to do i know a breeder who has helped me out alot in my chameleons care/breeding and she told me to breed when there ready like she does and not wait a year so no offense but i would rather listen to a breeder who has bred for years than someone who has been on a forum for 3 months

And no offense, but there were many people on that post besides me who said to not breed her. Not just me, who has only been here for three months. Many members said it was not healthy for the female, would hurt her health, and shave off time of her life. As well as people who have posted that on this very posted. High esteemed members who have also bred and who aren't just breeders, but owners who care for the health and keeping their chams alive as long as they possibly can.

what ever man im not gunna comment on anything else because im not gunna be the bad guy here

I believe than Kinyonga also told you to hold off until she was older and that woman has been keeping chameleons for a good 15-20 years, if I'm not mistaken. Laurie did as well, and she's also a wealth of knowledge and experience. And I don't blame Chamtini for saying hat she said, as a 13-year-old, you are going to be spending all day at school - if these guys don't hatch out during summer then you're going to have to get your parents to do all the work like misting and feeding for most of the day. I assume at least one of your parents works all day, and I don't know how happy the other one is to babysit chameleon babies. Maybe they are, I don't know. But she was just asking a valid question.

I used to work at the wildlife center at my museum of science with the reptiles and birds of prey, volunteered at a wildlife refuge for endangered birds, and volunteered at a vet clinic when I was 13-14 and I still wouldn't have been able to raise any kind of clutch because I would be in school (plus commute) from 6:30am to 4:30pm, and I would have had to leave it all to my mother. One or two days she would have dealt with it, but weeks and months? Forget it.

Also, don't base your respect of people's opinions off their time on this forum. I find it disrespectful to invalidate someone's opinion because they didn't find this forum before you did.

I really didn't wanna say anything, but just from the way this kid refuses to listen to sound advice alone shows he doesn't have the maturity level to properly raise chameleons. He clearly doesn't care about his female's health if he's willing to ignore sound advice about potential health risks from breeding too early.

Who is this breeder that said it's okay to breed chams when they are that young? Puppy mill breeder I'm suspecting (if you aren't lying to begin with). I really hate grilling little kids, but I'm gonna say what a lot of people reading this thread are probably thinking.

Bottom Line: If you need your parents to help you raise and breed chameleons, you won't be able to care for them properly. Period.

Not trying to be mean, just keeping it real. Although I know this post will do little to sway your mind, I wish you the best of luck breeding and hope your female doesn't end up dying young.

I second all of that. I believe you that you have done your research about how to care for babies, but have you talked to your parents about it? Are they prepared to pay $25-30 to order 1000 crickets every week? And house all those crickets? And feed/mist the babies multiple times every day? And not to mention start housing all those babies separately as they grow if you are unable to find homes for all of them...

Anyway, please don't take all this so personally. Most of us aren't trying to attack you as a person. We're just concerned about the health of your female.

Regardless, like I said before, what's done is done. You understood the risks, you did it anyway, so now it's time for everyone to stop chastising you and help you take care of your female. Just please, for the sake of your female chameleon, try to listen to experienced members' advice from now on.

Please feel free to PM me as well if you have any specific questions. I'm not the most experienced member here, but I am taking care of 12 baby Jacksons right now and so far all of them are still healthy and thriving, so I have a few pointers I could offer if you're interested.

I think perhaps you should have been a little more patient and waited until she was at least a year old and finished growing herself! Now her calcium reserves will go to calcifying the eggs rather than her bones. The black marks on her are bruises and they will subside in a day or so. My female had a massive bruise on her side after an injection last week and it went away after a few days.

1. I have 3 different sized cages for the babies

4.my parents have discussed it with many and were ok with it 3 YEARS AGO
5.they will help out with the food costs.

8. my breeders name is nan and is very good some of you may know her
9. i know what i got myself into and i did it purposely because i WANTED TO.
10.SO PLEASE STOP CRITISIZING ME!!!!!!!!!And maybe we could all get along as forum members together

1. I have 3 different sized cages for the babiesbelieve me, you'll need more than one of each size.
2.i kept my females temps/feedings short and not to hot so there would be a small clutchBe careful doing so cause you can easily starve her to death
3.i have an atomatic misting king with the timers, and extra tubes/nozzelsvery good
4.my parents have discussed it with many and were ok with it 3 YEARS AGO
5.they will help out with the food costs.

i am sorry chamtini if i sounded mean but you were offending me, and i know many of you (JRchameleon) think im just a dum little snotty kid desperatly trying to breed but im not I never said anything like that, nor have I said a single thing about you as a person. If you want to get along with others, don't put words in people's mouths.

What I said was not meant to be offensive or demeaning to you in any way. I apologize if that's how you read my tone, but that is not the way I meant it.

I asked valid questions. If you discussed this with your parents three years ago and they understand the money and time commitments involved, all you had to do was say so. How were we supposed to know that your parents understand everything required to raise babies if you didn't tell us so? Like others, I asked simple questions out of genuine concern, and all they needed were simple answers.

I agree with much of this but the summary of what I have to say is... If the babies hatch and Mom remains healthy, Congrats on your chameleon husbandry! Next time, just wait for your next female to get 1+ years old before you breed her. What is done is done and can not be changed now. Take good care of her, provide lots of calcium, and hope for the best! We are all here to help give the best care and knowledge towards chameleons, this is all about the animals! Not us! :)

Like I said, if your mother or whoever is willing and happy to babysit them during the day, then fantastic. You're good to go during weekdays. However, we were worried that if your parents hadn't really been informed of all the work that goes into this endeavor that you and all the babies were going to be in trouble. Forgive us, 13 isn't usually an age of vast responsibility and wisdom. Or money, or resources.

But again, since your parents agreed to help you then great, nothing to worry about.
