I finally bought some dubia roaches I have around 11 adults and 30 juvi's how many more do you think I could fit in a 5.5 gallon tank?

how big are the juv and adults? jut 1/2 inch? adult 1''? There my next task to buy and breed! Where did you buy yours?

Id say I keep 500+ in a space of about 5gallons or so.
Seems to be fine:p

I dont know for sure what would be best though:confused:

Adults are 1 inch and plus

I got my roaches from craigslist because dubias are pretty cheap $1-$2 each but its the shipping that gets you.

I just about 15 adults and some quantity of little guys myself about three weeks ago. Been feeding off some of the smaller guys, otherwise I'm letting em be until they get established. If I understand correctly, before too long that tub is going to be loaded with dubias! And one tub can handle a good sized colony.

I still laugh silently to myself every time I think about how I've invited roaches to come live in my household....

Yea I lucked out, She is the fine mother of my baby Chameleon, She even helped me destroy my to be Pmygy chameleon tank and redo it to make room to breed crickets! Even though we spend around 4 hours building it and the same time destroying it and moving everything. I may be moving in the near future so I dont want to be breeding quite yet, only my food sources I want to breed.

Would you be so kinda as to sharing your info on raising and breeding dubia roaches? I would like to add it to my list of things to do! your sources .. websits.. ect thanks!

If you can take care of crickets, you can handle dubias. But keep in mind I'm only a few weeks into this new adventure.

Just google dubia care, all the care sheets are pretty much the same...They can't climb or chirp (good), they need moisture and good food. Seems like they are not finicky eaters. So far I'm trying gutload, oranges, and apples.

I'm in Colorado and found a local guy selling them on craigslist, so I didnt have to deal with shipping and he gave me some pointers. Like I said, very similar to taking care of crickets, but easier.

My biggest challenge so far is how to feed them off. Carpet Chams can't handle the big ones, so hand feeding is tough. I'm feeding the smaller ones and I use a feeder cup. But when they get in the feeder cup, they just hunker down and dont move (crickets seem to run around the cup more). They get eaten, but carpets are stealthy and wait til I'm not looking!

Haha yea.... the adults look way!!! to big for chameleons in the first place but feed them when there young seems to work fine. I heard dubia barely eat anything compared to crickets. Do they smell?

When the colony gets rocking they go thru food...I saw oranges reduced to orange peels after about a day (according to guy I got mine from).

If you stick your nose in the tub you can smell em, but it's mostly the food. Crickets reek! Dubias hardly smell at all. You get a laugh every time the light goes on too, you can hear the adults running like mad for cover!

When you see em for the first time, you realize how big the adults really are...but they are very cool looking critters.
