Final questions/concerns about buying a veiled

Im pretty determined on getting a baby veiled cham because i dont exactly have the money for a panther. Ive done LOADS of research and am almost dedicated to making sure i know how to take care of one of these guys if i get one. Although over the past few days, ive come up with some concerns. Right now, over the summer, id be home more than enough to feed him, water, etc, but once i start school again is what i would be worried about. Because of the distance to my house from my school, theres no guarantee that i would be home after school every day at the same time to make sure hes taken care of.

For the misting situation i was going to pick up a repti fogger to keep the cage humidity up and so i dont have to worry about him getting dehydrated.

Really my main concern was just about feeding him. Ive heard or read before that its not exactly a good thing to feed them later in the evening and that would be really the only time id have to do it. is this true?

this is really the only issue that is making me hesitant about buying a little dude. Sorry for all the reading and thanks for your guys' time!

Hi!!!

It's better to feed them when they have at least 4 hours to digest before going to sleep. Is there a reason you can't feed in the morning? If it's a tight morning schedule (I've had those) transfer some feeders to a ventilated deli cup the night before. Toss in a piece of apple or carrot or some other good cricket food...then, in the morning, just dump that into the cage. You can clean up the debris later when you have time.

By the way, we love that you've been reading!!! This puts you so far ahead of most of us who sort of stumbled into chameleons and then found this board when we had problems.

I look forward to seeing pictures of your first chameleon and following your adventure with him.

If your actually looking for "mist" you're not gonna get that from the repti fogger. I have both the reptifogger and the MistKing, and as far as hydrating and quality product goes I definitely prefer my MistKing. They're definitely different, and deal with humidity in a different way though. My reptifogger started having fan issues after a week of use, it's nothing that has stopped it frmo working (yet) but it could. I also don't use it anymore.

Congrats on your cham-to-be. :)

if you have school, what you could do if you cant afford a mist king is use a hand mister in the moring and that should keep the humidity up while your at school. and then have a dripper going all day while your gone this wont keep humitidy up but it will hydrate you cham. When u get back mist the cham and aslo once or twice in the evening

thanks for the responses guys

and thanks for the advice on the feeding! i do plan on having a tight morning schedule at best and i think i have to do a little more thinking before buying a little guy just to work out any kinks.

Theoretically though with the reptifogger, if i put it to spray over a plant, would the plant get wet enough to have droplets form on the leaves? Ive looked at a few misting systems and things of that sort and the mist kings are a little pricey for now... but ive also seen people use home-made systems with humidifiers and stuff. would that be sufficient until i scrounge up more cash?

Have you looked into drippers at all? Combined with manual mistings from a spray bottle.. i think thats a better route then reptifogger. Unless where you live is insanely dry or something.
