Thanks! Its hit or miss with the pics. The better camera I have is good but its older and you cannot view what you are taking only view what you have taken and the view finder is blurry. I need to get that fixed so I can do some manual focus and get some different kinds of shots. For now its all auto though
I have seen 24 species so far this year. I dont think its going to take very long to reach that goal of 30 Those Earth and Worm snakes are supposedly hard to find but I know of a place that they seem to be littered all over the hillside. I find it amazing how you can find certain species on one hillside then go to the next and its a whole different set of species.
Hopefully I can get some goodies here soon like the Hellbender and the endangered Green Salamander.
Right now Im just waiting for the larger snakes to start popping up!
Habitat shot that you can find an abundance of animals in. 021 by Cain304, on Flickr
Not every animal I have found but I think I have one of each species I have found. I will try not to pack this thread full of the same species all of the time from now on. At the moment there are still a few species I can find around here but after that it will be time to travel for newer species.
Again, anyone feel free to post your pics of animals you find in the field!!
Thought I would share some of the better pictures of some of the newer animals I have been finding since my last post. So far I have found 34 species of reptiles and amphibians in a two county radius here in WV. I am just going to lump them up by species and not by order found
Ive posted plenty of these but here is a glamor shot
Slimy Salamander (Plethodon glutinosus) 013 by Cain304, on Flickr
I have only found one of these this year. They dont seem to be all over the place like some of the spots I go to in MD. One of my favorite salamanders.
Long-Tailed Salamander (Eurycea longicauda) 031 by Cain304, on Flickr
Plenty of these all over the place.
American Toad (Anaxyrus americanus) 024 by Cain304, on Flickr

Pickerel Frog (Lithobates palustris) 007 by Cain304, on Flickr

My GFs niece loves to go find frogs and amphibians with me whenever she can. Here she is with an American Toad one night road cruising. 025 by Cain304, on Flickr
Eastern box turtle (Terrapene carolina) 040 by Cain304, on Flickr
Second one of these I have ever seen.
Eastern worm snake (Carphophis amoenus) 009 by Cain304, on Flickr
Eastern ratsnake (Pantherophis obsoleta) 088 by Cain304, on Flickr
Had to rescue and relocate this one. Kids were shooting at it with a BB gun. Climbed a tree about 30 feet up to get it. I got a nice bit in return for the favor. 004 by Cain304, on Flickr
Northern Black racer (Coluber constrictor) 036 by Cain304, on Flickr
Plenty of these but this is the best pic of one I have.
Northern water snake (Nerodia sipedon) 023 by Cain304, on Flickr
Possible lifer. I grew up right in the area I found these along the creek so I probably saw them as a little kid not knowing they were any different than a regular water snake. If I have seen them its been a LONG time! Saw 4 that day.
Queen snake (Regina septemvittata) 068 by Cain304, on Flickr
Thanks, man! Ive definitely got to get out and find some different species of turtles. There are quite a few around here. Saw a Spiny Soft Shell the other day but it dipped before I could get a shot
Its been a while since I came to the forum. So whats been going on, everyone? Whos got the cool breeding projects going on now? I know ChuckG is having some success with parsonii. Who else has something going on that isnt the usual? Cough it up
I moved to Florida in July. Still not keeping chams just working, surfing and field herping. Thought Id share some of what I have found since the move.
Of course the awesome Green Anoles are always fun to watch. 023 by Cain304, on Flickr
My favorite finds so far I would say are these Atlantic Salt Marsh Snakes. Federally Endangered and not the easiest snake to find even though the habitat is basically my back yard. The pics are terrible and do not give the snakes justice. They are beautiful! 046 by Cain304, on Flickr
