Female Veiled not acting right.

• Your Chameleon - Female Veiled around 4-6 months

• Handling - maybe once a week when we clean the cage

• Feeding - Crickets and waxworms sometimes about 5 every day. feed crickets Flukers High Calcium cricket diet flikers orange cube and quencher and baby spinach

• Supplements - Zoo Med Repti Calcium without D3.then Rep-Cal phos. free with D3

• Watering - we mist his cage 3-4 a day and have Zoo Med Repti fogger

• Fecal Description - Brown and white. He has not been tested for parasites.

Cage Info:

• Cage Type - 16x16x30 Zoo MED Repti-Breeze starter kit
• Lighting - Zoo Med 5.0 UVB reptisun 13w and zoo med 60w daylight blue with UVA but had to replace with Exo terra 60w daytime without UVA also a ceramic heat emitter 60w for winter here.
• Temperature - 70-75 on floor, 85-95 in the basking spot. about 65 at night
• Humidity - humidity is anywhere from 40% to 60%. Measured using a temp/humidity thermometer.
• Plants -fake leaves and branches.
• Placement - Cage is located in a sitting room on a table with real plants around cage. No other pets in the house.
• Location - Connecticut

This is my first Chameleon that we bought 4 months ago at about 2 inch body length. We purchased the Zoo MED Repti-Breeze kit for Chameleon's. When we got her about 4.5 months ago she was very active and ate like a horse, We would take her outside to bask in the sun. In the last month which it is colder here now she has been very inactive so we took her to the vet and that is when we put the Reptifogger in and the extra heat emitter, and changed over to the Rep-Cal Phosphorus free per the vet. In the last week she has been hanging around the bottom of the cage and is very dark colored and very timid when you go near the cage. She looks shaky on the branches when I put her there and just climbs back to the bottom. She isn't eating very much. I don't know what to do.

You said you had her 4 months....Was she super tiny when you got her? If not, she is much older and that is what I am thinking from her size. Honestly, she looks like she might have eggs and therefore would explain her going to the bottom of the cage and not eating much. They can produce eggs without being mated and can produce eggs as early as 6 months. I will get you the video on how to set up a laying bin. If turns out she does have eggs, if she does not lay them she will die.

Hi Twinkletoesthedestroyer,welcome to this forum,since she is 4 to 6 month old,my suggestion to you is set up a laying bin as soon as possible, a female cham can be very sensitive during their laying cycle,as a male like us ,we need to provide and stand by herside,my dad was there when my mom was pregnant with me in that hospital.I will let others great person in this forum to finish my thoughts,thank you for letting us to reply your great question,have a lovely day.

I am just comparing her size to the leaves on the plant and she looks pretty big. The reason they go to the bottom of the cage is to look for a place to lay, if she indeed does have eggs. If you suspect this now and she does not lay, you can take her to the vet and get an xray to confirm if she has eggs.

I thought that might be the problem so put a plastic container in her cage this morning with zoo med loose coconut fiber substrate and she got into it. After reading your post and watching the video I just filled a larger container of earthgro top soil and it is heating up now as it was out in the garage. I have moistened it and will be putting it in her cage. she is about 5-6 inches long just body. I bought her for my daughter after we had to put her Cat down and she named her Twinkle Toes the Destroyer. I will let you know thanks for the help.

Oh glad you got her somewhere to lay. If she does not have eggs now, she very well may develop them later and for that reason you must always have a bin ready. Let us know how it goes!
