I have a female veiled chameleon not sure on age but had her about 1 month and noticed she had eaten some of her substrate which is non fertilised compost mixed with sand and its about 5 inch deep on the bottom of her viv since I wasnt sure how old she was incase she was of age to lay but she hasent shown any signs yet her viv is mesh and glass she is fed on gutloaded crickets and locusts and has everything she needs would like to know if anyone knows why she is doing this and how to prevent this ?

It's thought that they eat substrate when they are lacking something in their diet. Females seem to do it more than males which stands to reason if that's true.
