Feeding the Hornworm moth

Hi everyone, I am trying to raise the hornworm moth, however it doesn't seem to be feeding on the hummingbird feeder or bowl I have in their cage. Is there something else I should be doing to get them to feed? They are laying a few eggs for a few days then dying . What can I do to get them to feed??? I mixed up a small qty of humming bird food from an old bag from a previous year is that the problem?? Its just sugar and color I don't think that is it but ???? Thank you

They dont eat. They reproduce and die.

Um they do actually eat.... If you are using a bowl then put cotton balls in the bowl to soak up the sugar solution. They will eat a bit but their goal at this point is to mate and lay eggs. I used just sugar and water for my solution.
