Feeder Worms. Which Should I Use?

Your welcome, there are LOTS of different types of feeders that you can get for you Cham. Reptiworms are pretty much the same thing as Phoenix worms... There are mealworms, superworms, reptiworms, pheonix worms, butterworms, horn worms, silkworms, and so on. Those are just the ones I know of but i'm sure there are plenty more. I also have read of people using different types of roaches and also locust. Lot's or variety just need to see what is available in your area or order online. :) I'm learning myself so we are learning together. :p

I just fed him a Butterworm and 2 Reptiworms today. Reptiworms are small and don't have to be dusted because of their high calcium. I put a new thread out there about the amount as well of type of worm that is best. Hope I don't get blasted for the new thread :p but I really need to figure things out fast! Thanks for having me realize the worm option!!!! That might work out real well for Diego & his temp care taker :D

If you find your hornworms growing too fast you can put them in the fridge for no longer than a day and it slows their eating down. I believe it was something like 1 day in, 2 days out repeat. A few did grow too large for me to feed to Samson so I just let them pupate our and fed him the moths.

Samson also loves silkworms! I just bought 100 mediums and I would feed him 4-6 worms a feeding plus a cricket or two. The only thing with silkworms is how finicky they can be. I changed out the silkies from the first container and the next one must have been contaminated because overnight I lost half my stash of silkies. (they turned brown then turned to soup)

When I feed Samson I never give him just one type of feeder per feeding. Generally it's 3 different kinds (dubia, crickets and silk/hornworms) with a Superworm here or there for a snack and when I want to show him off to my buddies because he can't resist the things and will eat them in front of anyone.

I think next I might just order some micro superworms and feed those to Hugh. At least with those and crickets you can gutload them and give them what you want.
 
You can probably use them as a staple although I don't think it's reccommended. They are MUCH better than the mealworms because of their much softer exoskeleton. I belive it is called chitin that they have less of... I think you can but i'd make sure and ask someone else to see if you can.:)

if you hunt the forum well, you can find a chart that shows the breakdown of fat/protein/moisture/chitin?/etc but I do not know how reliable the source is. I believe silkies have higher protein/fat ratio over superworms. I have read mixed things about supers' as staple but haven't read anything so far about silkies not being a good staple.
