Fecal done on Ambilobe and has Nematodes ?

Today i decided to get a fresh stool sample from my Blue Bar Ambilobe and take to the vet for a fecal. This animal had symptoms of closing his right eye now and then. He gave me Panacur to treat the animal he told me to do it for 3 days and also sugested me to give it to the Male Sambava which also has a closed eye, but has been diagnosed with a Gular Edema. Should the panacur be used 3 days in a row, i thought it was suposed to be done on weekly intervals please help me with this. I also wasnt sure if i should give it to the sambava , since i am not sure if he has the parasite, they do live side by side in diferrent cages, and i sometimes put the to bask in the same ficus but not at the same time , so he might have gotten contact with them. The sambava has not poop recently i am waiting for him to poop. Let me know what you think? Should i keep giving the BB showers with the panacur treatment.

call your vet and ask for better directions on the treatment course....you paid for this info right???? as for the other cham that should be left to you sense of risk and the opinion of more experienced keepers

That is very unusual. Eyes being closed is not a sign of having any worms, which is the main reason for prescribing Panacur. Did the fecal show that there are worms present? Also normally panacur is a 3 week treatment, one dose a week, something doesn't sound right.

I've heard of some vets recommending Fenbendazole (Panacur) over 3 days like that in small doses to make it easy on the animal. In my experience this is not necessary as most outwardly healthy panthers respond well to the medicine.

The problem with only giving the medicine for three days straight (basically one treatment) is that while it will be effective in totally ridding him of worms, it will not have any effect on the worm eggs that are in his system. When those hatch another round of medication is necessary to eliminate those juvenile worms prior to them becoming reproductive and beginning the whole process over.

I agree. I haven't had to give Panacur to my chams, but use it often with the tortoises for parasites. You give it for a certain amount of days and then wait usually with tortoises 2-3 weeks, i forget it has been awhile thank god, then repeat. I second the call to the vet. Is he familiar with reptiles? The treatment won't affect the eggs of parasites. I would also ask him what kind of parasites he had and how it affected his eyes. Did he give you any cream for that? As for giving it to the sambava i would wait and get a fecal done. Next time don't use the same thing in both cages. Can u imagine if u did that with 10 chams.

Something doesnt sound right. I have a Blue Bar Ambilobe female that I got a few months ago. Her fecal smear showed parasites. My Vet gave me panacur, 3 doses in 10 day intervals. Took care of the parasites and the eggs. The next smear for her was clean.

Gular Edema, unless Im wrong, isnt due to a parasite. Its usually due to over-supplementing the animal. If my understanding is correct, being that I havent run into this with any of my 30 chams, correcting the supplementation will allow the issue to be fixed on its own.

I would check back with your vet or consult with a vet who is experienced in reptiles.
