Fake plastic hanging plants

Has anyone else noticed the sharp wire cuts on the upper most portion of the Exo-Terra and Zoo Med hanging plants?

I find that I will clip them down as far as possible and then cover up that cut with hot glue to prevent my lizards from cutting themselves.

I find it hard to believe that both of these companies would put out a product that could, very easily, harm your pet. One would think they would have a much better form of quality control. Especially, given that they specialize in products for reptiles and amphibians.

Of course, I made a recent trip to Michaels craft store to discover aisles of fake plants that I could use to make my own, all while doing so in a way that is safe for my animals.

I'm just looking for some discussion on the topic.

Thanks!
John

Sometimes, if the plant is one that you can bend and shape, the end of the wire will retract into the plastic depending on how you shape it. A glob of hot glue can cover the sharp end. I have never had an animal hurt itself on the wire.

These companies may not even manufacture the plants themselves, but buy them from some other place that has a lot less interest in how they will be used. A lot of their products are for the benefit of the humans, not the animals.
