Fake plant alert

I've been meaning to post this for awhile. When I got my pygmies I didn't have any real plants started up enough to give them some good hiding places, so I put in a bunch of fake plants. Some I bought from a pet store, but I bought some others from a pet store that sells new and used stuff. They were regular plastic plants that you'd get where you buy plants for flower arrangements (craft stores, Walmart, etc). Anyway, after 2 days I noticed that glue was leaking from where the leaves were glued on to the stem. I removed them immediately, and the glue was so soft it was running down parts of the stem. My pygmy enclosure is not hot, only warm. Please be careful as to what you buy. I can't imagine what would have happened had my wee chams stepped in this stuff, or maybe ate a cricket that was in this. I now only buy any fakes I need from pet stores. I like to stick with real plants, but I sometimes need fakes as fillers until the real ones fill in.

I will be setting up pgymy's for the first time after Daytona, (thanks Julie) so thanks for the tip.

I'm no expert 'cause these are my first two, but I planted a small corn plant and a pothos in their enclosure. I got a lot of sticks and branches from my tree outside and baked them. One (proper) fake plant and they were all set. They seem happy enough.

The stuff you saw leaking might have been a sticky wax, not a glue. Anyway, best not to use it! When I use fakes I like using the silk leaved type, not plastic. Yes, they have plastic stems, but the silk is less likely to leach anything and you can clean them easily.
