Eye Problem

Hello Forum.

My name is Jlif. Recently my 4 month old panther chameleon Chamemilio Estevez. Has taken to closing one of his eyes. I make it seem voluntary because he will open it for a few moments and begin to close it again. At first I believed, that something might have gotten stuck because this began right after he shed. But now after a few days I do not know what it could be. I have enclosed images of him, his eye and enclosure.

Any information you may provider is much appropriated

Hello Jlif, welcome to CF!
Super glad you and Chamemilio Estevez are here!
(Super awesome name, does he tip his hat? Like this?)

I would say its likely a peice of shed that has got down into his eye.
However, it could be many things.
Filling out the "how to ask for help" form will give everyone a good idea of how he lives, and what might be going on.

Here is the form:

Chameleon Info:

Your Chameleon - Male Panther Chameleon. 4-5 months of age. I have had Chamemilio for 3 months.
Handling - twice a month during cage maintenance.
Feeding - Gut Loaded and dusted Crickets. At start it was about 30 med size cricket placed in the cage every two days. Now it is about 15 large cricket placed in the cage every two days. Cricket are placed in the cage because Chamemilio prefers to hunt rather then be feed. Gut load, feed to crickets consist of shredded carrots, potato, dark greens, apples, dried dog food, vitamin powder .
Supplements - vitamin powder sprinkled on cricket. twice a week.
Watering - Automated Misting system sprays 2 mins every two hours. About 20 minutes of total of misting time daily. Do you see your chameleon drinking? Yes.
Fecal Description - Light to dark green with some white. It looks firm and moist. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? No
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Gut load, feed to crickets consist of shredded carrots, potato, dark greens, apples, dried dog food, vitamin powder .Dog food should not be used for gutloading. It contains animal protein, witch is bad for your chameleon. I dont think vitamin powders are a good thing either.
Supplements - vitamin powder sprinkled on cricket. twice a week. This is super important: Exactly what kind of vitamin? (what brand name and what does it contain?)
Watering - Automated Misting system sprays 2 mins every two hours. About 20 minutes of total of misting time daily. Do you see your chameleon drinking? Yes.I would recommend misting 3 times a day.
Fecal Description - Light to dark green with some white. It looks firm and moist. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? NoGreen poo is not normal. Is it always green?
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

Cage Type - Specs: 30"H x 16"W x 16"D Screen
Lighting - Morning = Zoo Med Power Sun UV Vapor Lamp 100 Watts Evening is a infrared red heat bulb. 80wattsNo lighting at all should be used at nite. They need darkness to fall asleep, and sleep well. Temps can go as low as 50F or 10C before you need to worry about providing nite time heat. If you have to, a ceramic heater is the best thing to use.
Temperature - What temp range have you created 65-90 degrees Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps? 65-75 degrees.

A few more questions:

Are you sure its just the one eye?
At what times does your lighting come on and off?
What part of the world are you in? (generally speaking)

Yes, It is just the one eye. When I am looking at this back it is the right eye. He seems to have no problem opening it when he realizes someone is there. When it is open the eye appears just as clear as the one that stays open, but then he goes back to closing it after about a 5 mins has past.

We live in Nevada. It is very dry here, but through daily misting I am able to maintain a humidity of 60-62% within the cage.

The Day light turn on at 6:30am and shut off at 7pm. Night heat lamp turns on at 7:05pm till 6:29 am.

Welcome to the forums..Snake is giving good advice.

Green be the result of the chameleon eating plant material. This is a indication that there is a lack in hydration. It could also mean a lack in nutrients. I see that you have a mister and you have stated you mist a bunch. Is this something recently started? I use to live in pahrump. So if you live anywhere in southern nevada it is going to be a chore to keep humidity levels up. NOTE: The cage needs to dry out between mistings. Not allowing this can cause RI and skin conditions. Add a room humidifier to help.

Suggestions to correct.
1. Humidity level need to stay above 40-50%
2. Mistings need to stay at three times a day.
3. Use proper gut load ingredients
4. use a proper dusting schedule. Plain phos free calcium every feeding. Reptivite twice a month. From personal experiences, products like herptivite wont provide sufficient VitA to your panther.
